Known for its sophisticated wearable daywear to night wear looks while allowing the wearer to still appear above the working class look, J.Crew took its first turn in the Lincoln Center performance space for the Mercedes Benz New York Fashion week. The muted tones of pink, natural, taupe and mustard all an obvious homage to Fairfield Porter and Rauschenberg as their prevalent inspiration this season.
Staying true to the customer that is J.Crew was the updated slightly cropped cardigan, pipped with an expert amount of red, white and blue. Keeping up with the trend was the heavy usage of pattern blocking which came across as a more edgy way of colour blocking, Expert need only apply. Not saying that it takes a genius to pull off a stripe and a paisley-but every print isn’t for everyone so mix sparingly.
Having said that standout separates were the woven colour blocked shirt, the striped pea coat, the art printed sundress, hot pink blouse, and candy striped skirt. Something for everyone as usual at J.Crew, but I wonder if maybe next season will we get something a little more dramatic since it is at Lincoln Center…. I’m just saying….
