Cynthia Rowley always has something special up her sleeve when it comes to Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week.  Today she held her runway show on the Stage section of the Lincoln Center Performance Space to a set dipped in gold.  Her collection ran the full gamut of flouncy floral tea dresses and cropped well tailored trousers against floral blazers to refined day-wear back to extreme tattoo pants.  Although the collection couldn’t be pegged down there still was a cohesiveness that you understood the direction.

I particularly loved her take on the perforated shirts and the loosely pleated white dress.   The pinned hem black dress belted with the almost thorn like belt bled wonderfully into the more voluminous printed pieces.  Just when you thought metallic might be going away due to the influx of floral that has been running rampart on the runway, Cynthia said, not at all.  Where there lies rainbow; some gold is sure to be, even if its in the state of mind albeit a wardrobe, so it shall it be…
I found this show particularly interesting because for a very playful collection it was both very wearable and mature.

Gone was the seriousness of all black everything and in its place came that same black but with a golden lattice laid print that almost read tribal to me.  Then there were the little golden shorts.  AMAZZZZZING.  The collection had just the right amount of Boom with out seeming silly.  Whether it was the little black dress with shoulder embroidery of gold or the clean little white dress; one things for certain she knows her customer very well, probably because she is her customer. Cynthia Rowley is an always evolving designer, mostly because she keeps in mind the changes of life but never loosing sight of the person wearing it.
