First I have to thank the wonderful PR people at MAO PR for the avant garde invitation to the show. The invitation all dressed in black, unfolded in an origami like manner to unveil the NYFW presentation details. After receiving this invitation i knew what to expect, and the designers at Rochambeau didn’t disappoint in the least.
Usually when you think of collections mostly in dark colours for the Spring/Summer collections you think dreary, however at Rochambeau it was almost polar opposite as they were able to juxtapose dark tones with light fabrics and make it all cohesive. I loved the reworked sports coat with the leather trimming as well as the wide legged trouser which to me was a new take on the harem pant and was genius. The styling that was presented was super DOPE as well. The leather sandals, the waist length beads, the rocker chic Russel Brand’esque hair styling all made it easy to digest. Even if you thought that the collection was too futuristic or just not you, there was no way you didn’t like anything as a singular piece that you couldn’t segue it into your own look.
The moniker that is Rochambeau (coming from a game played in France similar to paper rock scissors) executed the collection with that same simplicity and profound meaning. From the lightweight linen short pants to the deep V-neck cotton long-john’esque shirts, to the simple leather vest it all was done with the fluid lines of a scissor, the profound heaviness of rock, with the weightlessness of a sheet of paper. No matter which one u choose to go with, if you’re wearing the brand; win every time.
