Always the effervescent party monster, where else would Richie Rich have his show but at the velvet lined Lavo night club in midtown Manhattan!?!?! Sponsored by Svedka Vodka the show was already in full party mode before, during, and after the collection was shown so you kinda never knew when the show was over.
Opening the show was a feathered headdress wearing guy complete in full half clothed Ritchie Rich regalia… Who better to follow then Coco of IceT and Coco fame, who was led into the “runway” atop the shoulders of two seemingly buff men of colour, who when placing her down to do her strut would end up giving the audience an eye full of her famous parts if you know what i mean. Between the Boob-outage and the Svedka the tone was set.
Although heavy on costume and panache the clothing wasn’t all chuckle. there were some cool woven separates if your an editorial stylist like myself who could pair these looks with maybe stronger pieces to tie it all together, but that’s not to say you couldn’t find a bikini if that’s what you were looking for. I mean this was a Spring/Summer show right!?!? In the finale, if the Svedka girls, the Bikini clad fellas, giant cross wielding models and roller skating Richie wasn’t enough for you you probably took another hit of whatever you frequent as you rode your way down (or was carried down) to the nearest club kid spot. If you were looking for an entertaining show to attend this was your show. If you were looking for wearable art this might have been your show. Ballroom gowns-not so much…. Either way I’m looking forward to next party, errr i mean show, lololol.
