The first show that I attended during Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week inside it’s new home at Lincoln Center was: Concept Korea Show featuring Korean designers Kwak Hyun Joo of PUCCA, Lee Juyong of Resurrection, and Lee Jean Youn.
I, struggled to connect to Kwak Hyun Joo’s collection. Upon first look, originally I hated the whole line. However, before I sat down to write this review I decided to watch the video, and look more closely at the photos from the show. I came across two or three pictures that made me realize “hate” is such a strong word. Looking closer, I realized the clothing was well crafted; but I didn’t quite connect with the design factor. I felt as if there was no story behind the clothes. I really wanted to like it, but I didn’t. The voices under the tents screamed the same sentiments… but KittyBradshaw.com always look for the positives within anything. I am not sure if this line was created with the American consumer in mind. On the bright side, I haven’t given up on Kwak Hyun Joo. I look forward to next season’s line to see where it goes from here.
Next there was Lee Juyong of Ressurrection. She designed a line of “Skants”…. sort of like “Skorts” but skants are when pants meet kilts = “Skants” …… now say that 10 times in a row real fast, lolll 🙂
Ms. Juyong created a men’s line that pushed the futuristic envelope. This line was made for the man who beats to his on drum down the parade route. You all know what…. I kind of liked it. There was an actual story here. I like people who give us something raw and unseen. Below are pictures of my favorites.

Congratulations Lee Juyong on a job well done. I am excited to see what you come out with next.
Finally, we had Lee Jean Youn… clearly the crowd favorite. Mr. Youn created this feather hat that was “FIERCE”. Lee Jean Youn should open the flood gates when working on his upcoming fall line with hat design. In addition, his clothes were something I could definitely see myself wearing right now!
In conclusion, CONCEPT Korea was not a disappointment. I am glad I was introduced to these three great designers.
