The Milly by Michelle Smith Collection was obviously all about a lifestyle. In lifestyle brands its important to incorporate must-have accessories and Milly had them all. The collection titled “A lesson in Geometry” had plenty of shapes and fluid lines in hues of citron, aqua, hot pink, and the season favourite tangerine. Back to the accessories, there were pins dipped in resin, bucket and tote bags in the luxe nappa, goatskin, and ostrich embossed leathers.
The show started with an amazing geometric puzzle print coat, that wasn’t complete without the matching shift dress and limited edition Milly for Sperry Top Siders, that were an updated boat shoe with a nice espadrille heel that was very resort. You could clearly see the inspiration of artist Sonia Delaunay on this collection as stated in the show notes. The loose tied blouses , the mod styled shift dresses, the sophisticated pairing of the apple and blue with just enough blocking that it was all so fresh. Although there was allot of great spring colours, some of the colour combinations made it feel at times like autumn in the spring which was fine since it offered a variety of options.
Out of 42 looks shown by Milly, I think there wasn’t one that wasn’t enjoyed. The tangerine cigarette pants, the vermilion silk and linen geometric print coat, the bark sateen circle skirt, the citron fine gauge pleated knit dress were my highlights. I also enjoyed that they even had something for the possibly expectantly lady, that being the white linen trapeze dress with the peekaboo back. After attending the show and seeing the designers daughter rush up to her in her own mini Milly upon the finale i can tell that the designer Milly is a women that is most definitely a well rounded designer, and her customer is well styled women in any aspect of her life.
