As the Women’s Creative Director for Calvin Klein Collection, Francisco Costa has debuted a S/S 2012 collection that is light and airy. With a simple illuminated white runway and serene acoustic music playing overhead, the show was underway. The models weaved through a maze-like runway in initial looks of all natural hues. The pieces were breezy and loosly form-fitting.
There were strapless v-neck dresses and below the knee skirts paired with matching cami tops. Sheer fabric was used around the neckline of several pieces which added an extra airiness. Jackets were long and fell below the knee with satin collars for added drama. Skirts, while flowing, gently hugged the hips and flared out at the base. By mid-show, it was clear that not much color would be used in the collection, but it didn’t hurt at all. The color palette consisted of white, cream, nude, metallic grey, and black, not a big variance in color. It was quite refreshing to see the “lighter” side of CK with fabulous detailing, translucent fabrics, and an overall comfort feel.
The models were well selected with straight hair and simple part down the middle. Natural makeup has been a running theme in most shows this Fashion Week, and Costa appropriately embraced this theme as well. What a perfect compliment to this wonderful S/S collection but to have an all natural looking model with no accessories and simple Mary Jane platform stilettos. The show was perfect and so was the collection!
