Narciso Rodriguez debuted a S/S 2012 collection that was fun, edgy and dramatic.  Traditionally, his pieces are simple and bold, with lots of paneling and shapes with strategically placed pops of color.  This coming season, you can expect the same use of asymmetric shapes but  his use of color came into play with dramatic colorblocking techniques.  Sheer fabrics, silks and prints were all used at some point in the show and with exciting use of basic black and white, bright orange and teal blue/greens, turquoise and pale yellow, this collection has something for everyone.

Each piece was breezy and light with a loose, comfortable fit that was rather flattering to the body shape.  The trousers were well cut and tailored to fit, as did the skirts.  Some dresses had a closer to the body fit, while others had a flowing feel to them.  I was elated to see multiple colors used in the colorblocking techniques in several of the dresses.  The two-toned turquoise asymmetrical shaped dress teetered between on and off the shoulder while the hem line fell just above and just below opposite knees.   Narciso wasn’t afraid to use prints and at least four hues in one garment all of which worked well to create an edgy and cohesive look.

The drama continued with pastel-esq colored paint combed through the front of each models hair, which was pulled back into a loose bun.  There were no distracting accessories used to speak of and the makeup was dramatic but plain with a darkness around the eyes and natural lips.  Overall the S/S 2012 collection holds much promise for drama and excitement!
