First show back at the Lincoln Center site for Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week, and where better to start but at the Porter Grey Presentation in the Box Studio’s. The first thing I noticed was the vibe of the presentation which was pretty hipster meets new wave. Sherbet hues of strong corals, light greys and cremes all came together to form a very modern chic collection. Although the styling was minimal, the detailing of the pieces and the cartoonish floral prints did all the necessary work where other designers may overcompensate when other areas lack.
The well tailored carpi’s were a large hit with me as were the perforated leather pieces. All designed to a capital T. Although again very bare and minimalistic, the thin slicing of the leather material made for a grand statement which to me read very overtly, Less is more. The collection even took into consideration the customers ever changing desire for the L T B, better known as the Little Black Dress; however having said that they also had little white dress as well as an amazing little beaded dress. Yes, there is something for everyone in this collection… Just as long as they’re cool enough to pull off being this simple and chic. I mean, who doesn’t want to go from the supermarket, to the Hampton’s, to the airport all in the same key of comfort and effortless style.
The accessories that were used which to me set off everything were the amazing oxford shoes and black wayfarer style shades. The shoes came in coral, cream and white, and just white. This to me was a brilliant way to show the not so sure how to wear the understated pieces with maximum effect. I thoroughly enjoyed the collection and doubly look forward to styling it in a few upcoming spreads, however with looks so simple, I’m sure people may grow tired of seeing such a good thing all the time, then again…. how is that possible!?!? Nope its not possible.
