BCBG by Max Azria showed this morning (Thursday, September 8th) in the Theater Studio of the Lincoln Center Performance Space to a full audience only a half hour later then expected, which to most fashion folk reads as on-time, lol. Standing room was clearly at capacity, and rightfully so. This collection was amazingly light, airy, and most certainly edgy and fresh. As stated in the line notes given to the attendees, this collection was all about fluid silhouettes and weightless fabrics which embodied the fresh energy of the season. If nothing else, Sir Max Azria did exactly that.
Karolina of Ford Modeling agency was the perfect choice to start the show as she looked so clean and effervescent that the rest of the collection could go no wrong. There was a strong Aztec design element to the pieces that i thought major modern yet with the colour pallet of corals, light yellows, brown, and cream was also a throw back to a time just as easy breezy as the collection itself. I found allot of the long gowns with this very ornate pleating effect alongside the V neck silhouette to be flirty yet refreshing. Another one of his genius ideas i thought, was the colour print/blocking technique along side these heavily pleated summer gowns. Almost kaleidoscopic, but not harsh on the eyes more like an unexpected pleasure if you will. The shoes which were of a tribal wooden platform variety, complimented the whole look as it allowed the beautiful designs to speak for themselves while still offering a full head to toe look.
If your a Hampton’ite or just a major city Housewife, this collection has your name all over it. From beach outings, to polo matches, to a posh night out to eat, this collection was all luxxe but no gimmick. Just clean prints over long lengths mostly which to me is the ultimate in getting more bang for your buck. Like, who wants to pay a house payment for half a dress!?!? No one i know, okay maybe a few, but still i think the collection was a grand move forward for such a mass marketed brand. He still has something for everyone, just now-they know whats next.
