Being that this was my first time ever at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week, I honestly did not know what to expect. Upon entering the “tent” I was immediately captivated by all the glitz and glam. Surrounded by what seemed to be the East Coasts most beautiful and fashion forward people, I was in complete paradise.

Since I was towards the front of the line, waiting to view Katya Lenovich’s collection  was not as bad for me as for others (the line was pretty slow). Katya Leonovich’s collection was the first show I viewed. Her vision took a different approach from the typical “runway” show, the collection was revealed in the Lincoln Center Box, giving people a chance to get close up on the garments and observe the very detailed pieces. I actually found that aspect of her show to be very cool, of course in every show, you’re not always going to have the best seat in the house and having to look over people’s hair and hats can sometimes take away from the show itself. With this show there were no “bad seats”.

To be completely honest Katya Leonovich’s collection was all over the place, I didn’t find it to be cohesive, textures and fabrics were all over the place, but somehow it worked! I have to say that she most certainly nailed the most memorable award (for me). I enjoyed the eccentric hanging artwork all over the room, delivering her concept, which I felt was chaos.  Fashion has no rules, and that is what sets apart the fabu-yes from the fabu-nots.

I personally loved the fact that all her models were sporting a loose vintage finger wave hairstyle complementing her futuristic garments. Although her garments were futuristic, her garments stayed true to the forever classic romantic silhouette, accenting the natural curves of a woman, and let’s be real what woman doesn’t want that hour glass shape.

Katya Leonovich’s Fall 2012 collection used bold water colors and snake skin prints, metallic, black, and white. She used very intricate details as far as mixing the prints with the solids as well as the textures of rough and smooth, and that is where I felt her concept of chaos came into play. Overall I enjoyed her collection because it was not typical and really made me viewers.
