I have now found myself at the show of the famous fashion house, Lacoste. The show, which was held at the beautifully designed Theater venue within Lincoln Center, was beautifully set and presented. As the mood and décor of the show proved efficient, so did the collection. Felipe Oliviera Baptiste took a stern strict approach this season that can serve proficient for his ideal tennis/sportswear audience.
The collection tries to successfully dabble in formal wear, such as a basic evening gown of a dark grey hue, or a set of silk cocktail dresses that were pretty calm in design. I found the chic sportswear for the women very interesting, as one of my favorite pieces include a spin on the classic Lacoste pique polo, where Baptiste applies a silver embellishment where the button lapel stops. I found the menswear quite delightful, as Baptiste continues to mix colors to add vivacity, as he does with a cotton fabric shirt with detailed color at both the sleeves and collar. There were a few surprises, but I could not spot consistent gems in this collection.
I feel as if Baptiste stuck to the tranquil aesthetic Lacoste is known for, and stepped away from risks. Even though the collection lacks major creativity, Baptiste does serve his market successfully. The collection defines the perfect spring, for the full-time businessman or woman, and part-time tennis enthusiast.
