The Son Jung Wan fashion show had to be the best experience out of the entire MBNYFW for me, because I had one of the best seats in the house. Yes, Chanel Cole sat front row during her first time ever at fashion week, and I’m sure that onlookers could read the excitement all over my face. The funny thing about sitting in front row is that some people automatically assume your someone of some significance (and that’s fine wit me). I mean seriously, I sat next to a lady wearing thigh high Louboutin boots while carrying a Hermes Birkin bag, let’s just say I was adorned by New York’s elite society.
The show started a few minutes late, so the wait was not bad, given the fact that the line to enter was huge. Someone should have yelled, “lights-camera-action”, at the beginning of her show because action is truly what Son Jung Wan brought to the runway. Son Jung Wan’s inspiration for her 2012 f/w collection was contemporary artist Marc Quinn’s winter garden. Onlookers could easily interpret that this collection was her manipulated version of “oriental winter garden”. She showed various fabrications with striking details, i.e., tassels, zippers, and small flowers. I also loved her use of bold colors on different fabrics like silk, alpaca, chiffon, leather, raccoon, and mink. Yes darling – I said mink! The fur actually was a key piece in the entire show, whether the garment was an entire fur piece, accented, or if it was just a strip of fur on the shoe, it was present.
I felt like all her pieces were chic, but my favorite piece of the show was an emerald green ankle length silk gown. The fluidity of this gown was just beautiful as it flowed up and down the runway.
Son Jung Wan definitely was definitely crowned one of the fabu-yes’ at MBNYFW!
