We are quickly approaching the end, of our wonderful New York Fashion Week. In any case, the end is inevitable but the collection I’ve seen today is just the beginning of my admiration of Argentina’s great designers. Before this week’s show, I honestly admit I did not know that collective designer show existed at Fashion Week, but as in fashion anything is possible. The show included six designers, hailing from the beautiful country of Argentina. The designers included Cardon and its creative team, Cora Groppo, Daniela Sartori, Desiderata and its creator the Argentine Mazalosa Group, Mariana Dappiano, and Min Agostini. Each collection presented although different in design managed to keep their Argentinean influence as primary influences of their clothing.
Cardon’s collection stood out the most, with its noticeable Indian influence in their design. Many pieces included the use of the poncho for men and women, colorful scarves and striped pattern accessories. Cardon’s collection seemed a little bit costume-esque for me, but in all the design was definitely original. With Corrograpo their niche was the mixture of fabrics, as the use of silk and leather with an extended zipper detail resulted in a beautiful blouse that could be worn with any coördination the customer chooses. Sartori’s collection does play it safe, as she uses silk to enhance more conventional designs such as the cocktail dress and evening gown. Sartori’s work seemed basic, and quietly moved the show along. Both Desiderata and Dappiano turned to intricate prints for their collection where it resulted very well. Min Agostini on the other hand relied solely on her great skill of tailoring and color selection to highlight her collection.
All six collections were truly interesting, and excellent in portraying the artisanal beauty that can be found in Argentina. Serving the show, as a platform to show multiple designers was a wonderful idea as the audience was able to see the different styles, and techniques that were used for each individual collection. I left the show quite satisfied.
