Away from the repetitive venues I have been visiting this week, All American designer, Tory Burch held her Spring 2012 collection at the Anne Tully Hall of Lincoln Center. The collection reminded of the early 1920’s where casual always meant formal with less effort. Even though the look is very vintage, it is designed with the modern woman in mind. Tory Burch is known for her eye for re-creating great nostalgic pieces in each of her premiere design season collections, and she does not fail here.
With crisp clean color selection and interesting pattern making, the collection holds firm to the Tory Burch aesthetic of honest, fun clothing. Inspired by the great Fitzgerald novel The Great Gatsby, the clothing exerted a fun regal vibe that to resonates throughout the collection. Burch’s spring collection includes just the right amount of flair her audience (working moms’) need in their everyday lives. The pencil knit skirts, and polka dotted silk dresses are perfect for the woman who wants to “dress up” with little challenge. The stripe patterns and many of the accessory pieces of the collection resembled the likes of Chanel, but why not honor the greats while making great clothing.
Tory Burch has yet again created an easy, commercial collection that the everyday woman can consume. With the working-woman becoming a recurring motif in today’s society, the collection suits very well. The look belongs in the East Hampton area, but hip enough to strut on the streets of the Upper East Side. Yes Ms. Burch has done it again.
