As everyone recovers from an eventful evening (Fashion Night Out), Day two presents us with EMERSON, a new face of the Mercedes Benz Fashion week scene. Hailing from Boston, the label’s designer, Jackie Fraser-Swan was challenged with the task of wowing Fashion elite, and press in the early hour of 9am. With the show being held at the intimate Box Studio, the focus was indefinitely on the collection and the classic eccentric EMERSON is known for. The show provided a cinematic emotional feeling, which gave the audience an opportunity to connect with the collection, but fairly more the design.

If Swan’s niche is planning and executing she did so, very well this morning. EMERSON’s opening pieces set frame for the structure of her collection, as each piece relied on the other, to present their unique beauty.  While the colors lacked exuberance the palettes that were used, assisted the decision of low tone color selection.  EMERSON’s collection, exemplifies the modern woman’s need for “edgy-mature clothing”. What makes Emerson’s work this season so charming, is that it works on both levels of edgy street wear, and evening couture.  Jackie Fraser-Swan’s originality lies in her skill to amend different genres, that designers grow weary of combining.

Some may consider Swan’s little fabric experimentation, as a damaging blow to her collection’s diversity, but this choice alone distinguishes EMERSON from other lines.   The collection seemed to play “low to the ground” with its presence, and presentation rather than making a strong statement at this season’s runway. It may have been fashion week anxiety or a sense of uneasiness, whatever the case maybe it did not hinder the look or presentation of the collection. My opinion of EMERSON: Strong design, elegant street wear but CAUTION stay away from this season’s collection, if you plan to wake up your fashion closet.  If you plan to mature your Spring/Summer wardrobe, then Emerson is your go to label this season.
