Los Angeles: Compton Christmas Parade 2014 [PHOTOS]

 Compton Christmas Parade 2014

Compton Christmas Parade 2014 - 10

Yesterday, I attended the Compton Christmas Parade 2014  in Compton, California with my aunt.  As most people know I am a parade whore and showcase that by attending any and all.  I have been attending the Compton Christmas parade for years and people from all over Los Angeles County come out to show support.  This year’s Grand Marshall was  Anthony Anderson, who I learned is a Compton native. Other notables include the youngest mayor in Los Angeles County’s history, Aja Brown, and Platinum Recording Artist Michel’le who showed off her new blue hair.

Today’s post is about the random things that caught my eye at the Compton Christmas Parade 2014 as I sat in my lawn chair on Compton Blvd, between Sante fe and Long Beach Blvd.  I captured photos of mostly horses as Compton produces some beauties.  I remember as a child being at my grandmother’s house and there was a Indian man that would walk his horse around the neighborhood giving children rides around the block.  As I travel around the country people seem to only associate Compton with 80’s and think that the city is 100% slums.  They are always shocked when I show them pictures and mention there is a lot of rich farmland.  In my opinion, Compton is one of the interesting cities in California that can’t seem to shake a decade that has long since passed.  As I mentioned in previous post, I will continue to share photos and facts in attempts to give people an idea of what the city is really like.

Below are my photos and captions from the parade…

1. neighborHOOD Snacks

Every good parade needs snacks.  On this day I went with the below culinary staples… Tapatio Lays?!  I want to kiss the genius that came up with the idea to make these.  Lastly, Pecan Pies are so horrible they make a rebound and taste good, loll.

2. Black Equestrians

In my mind I am a member of this group.  The horses were so beautiful; their coats were healthy and shiny.  These are show horses and they know it as they strutted down Compton Blvd with pride.  Side Note:  I am not sure if the younger Compton residents know that the Budweiser Clydesdales used to make appearances in the Compton Christmas parade years back.

3. Dancers

In my mind I could have been in this group… then again my dance skills aren’t as good as these ladies.  They were extremely good, and I believe they were from Lynwood.  They also had the best costumes in the parade.

4. My Favorite Horse

He was the most beautiful horse of the parade.  Like… he could be a Disney horse- that’s how beautiful he was in person.  Also, his hair was on fleek, lolll.  I took several pictures of him because he was just that awesome!!!!

9. The Compton Fire Department

I don’t think anyone told the Compton Fire Department that there is supposed to be only one Santa Claus per Christmas Parade, loll.  However Spanish Santa Claus refused to be left out of the festivities.  He made his way down Compton Blvd at the helm of the truck as three standard fire trucks followed behind.  It was truly a vision against the blue Southern California skies.
