The thing I love about Son Jung Wan is that she is so consistent, and I feel that is what separates many designers from being mediocre and great. That consistency is where Son Jung Wan’s “signature” stands out amongst many who do not. She has a certain way of constructing garments that float down the runway; the fluidity and movement of her pieces are always so beautiful.
Son Jun Wan is a designer who truly understands women, what they want to wear and how they would like to wear it and this spring/ summer 2013 collection exemplified just that. I interpreted this collection to be very whimsical and enchanting like, embracing the inner child in many of us. A component that contributed to such a successful collection would be the chosen color trends. The combination of neutral hues and occasional pops of subtle colors like ombre charmeuse, turquoise, yellow, pink, and purple; all gave a very classic appeal to the collection. Son Jung Wan, also I feel has a passion for simple complexity, in this collection it was her intricate beading and oversized organza flowers that played homage to that great talent that she has. This spring collection also shinned light to the versatility of her clothing; many of her pieces can be transformed from day to evening, with a quick change in accessories. And there’s nothing like being able to wear one ensemble more than once and have it look totally different. In addition, Son Jung Wan provided some men’s wear pieces, in which I really appreciated, why, because it was not typical menswear, I interpreted them to have a bit of femininity to them, making me love it! Mainly, when you see men’s wear it can be your typical very macho wear or vice versa and here is where I found her men’s pieces to have that equal balance for the confident and chic male suitor.
I was very pleased with Son Jung Wan’s Spring 2013 collection because she stayed consistent to who she is as a designer while still bringing us a broad range of dresses, pants, body suits, and men’s wear that are all classic and yet versatile pieces.
