MBNYFW: HERVÉ LÉGER S/S 2012

Herve Leger is synonymous with creating sexy, form-fitted dresses that not only hug the hips, but requires one to diet for weeks just to fit comfortably in one.  While I am a big fan of Herve, I was a bit disappointed in the upcoming Spring/Summer 2012 collection.  I’m still torn whether I was more disappointed in the use of lame, tribal patterns or the hideous boots that every model wore with each ensemble!

The dresses were typical form-fitted, but also offered a bit of flare with loose-fitting ruffled bottoms.  Shiny silver and gold fabric was used with a  hint of tribal pattern with contrasting, and sometimes matching, bold piping that framed the silhouette of each piece.   The black dresses also displayed the same tribal pattern and were either paired with a clutch or cropped leather jacket with flashy gold beading on either side of the jacket’s opening.  Later, the tribal pattern became more bold and present as the pieces got richer in color, with deep red, cream, light blue, and taupe.

Each model wore light, natural makeup and their hair tightly pulled back off of the face into ponytails that hung down the back.  The worst part for me, was the choice of footwear!  Worn with each dress were a pair of just below the knee cut-out sandal boots that took away from the ensembles and added a bit of an unnecessary distraction.  While the colors worked well with each piece, I thought the boots were an unfortunate style choice!  Overall, the collection was strong, but not what one would expect from Herve Leger.
