Last night, during the Grammy Awards, Disney unveiled the Maleficent trailer. I was so super excited to watch this, and can not wait until Maleficent hits theaters. I absolutely LIVE!!!! for Angelina Jolie and felt she was the perfect casting choice for this role.

During the trailer, we got to listen to award-winning, American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey’s recording of a unique reimagining of the renowned fairy-tale tune from Disney’s classic animated film “Sleeping Beauty,” which will feature in the end credits of the upcoming Disney film.

Lana Del Rey’s “Once Upon a Dream” is free for a limited time, only on Google Play, Google’s online store offering digital music, movies, books, games and more. The song was made available as a free download today and will be available exclusively on Google Play through Monday, February 3rd [http://smarturl.it/ldrgps1].

Are the New York Rangers Targeting Andrew Ladd? Madison Square Garden has been heating up for the last 3-4 weeks, as the Rangers have made a significant dent in the Metropolitan Division.  The roster is showing signs of cohesion that have been missing in previous years.  Lines are coming together, but improvements in the top six may be necessary to catch the white hot Pittsburgh Penguins.

Playoff depth is a major concern for the Rangers, as teams like  Chicago, Boston, and Anaheim have incredible depth up and down the line-up.  The Penguins, dealing with injuries and suspensions throughout the first half of the season, owe their success to a system built to win.  The Rangers are going to need to land a big fish.

Reports have been floating in that Glen Sather has had discussions with the struggling Winnipeg Jets, and rumors say that he may be willing to move Carl Hagelin in a potential deal targeting one of the biggest fish in the pond, Andrew Ladd.

The point-per-game winger is a proven commodity, a two-time Stanley Cup winner (Carolina in 2006, Chicago in 2010).  A 6’3”, 205 pound two-way winger, Ladd is known for his energetic game, locker room leadership, and a good deal of grit when the game calls for it.

 

A Replacement for Callahan?

Ladd’s contract is another selling point.  He is scheduled to earn only $4.4 million against the salary cap.  That figure is much more team friendly than the contract of Ranger’s captain, Ryan Callahan ($4.825 million), who has been injury prone and producing fewer points over the last two seasons.

Ladd is a durable two-way winger, only missing one game in the last five seasons.  Callahan’s contract comes to an end after the 2014 season and could expect, based on comparable players, to fetch $6 million on the open market.

Acquiring the Winnipeg winger could allow Sather to get a great return on Callahan as a rental, improving the prospect pool by bringing back some high draft picks.  Improving your long-term success while shedding salary cap space should be the goal of any GM.

Speculative as it may be, Sather should move quickly to inquire about Ladd before other teams come knocking.  The Pittsburgh Penguins, Toronto Maple Leafs and other teams are rumored to have interest in Ladd as well.  With only 42 days to go until the trade deadline, and the Rangers a likely lock in the playoffs, it’s time to start preparing.

This week, the best of the best in culinary food on the go came together at Industrial City Park in Brooklyn for the 9th Annual Vendy Awards.  I was sponsored by Tide to Go to attend and cover.  Tide to Go sponsored the festivities and hosted it’s own “Messy Yet Tasty” awards, which was awarded to the truck with the tastiest food, that also required a napkin for clean up, lolll.

The Vendy Awards gave out honors in a variety of categories such as:  Best Dessert, Rookie of the Year, Best of New Jersey, Best Market Vendor, The People’s Taste Award, and the top prize, the Vendy Cup, which is decided by a panel of celebrity judges.  During my time there, I got the opportunity to try out all of the food and beverage and speak directly with truck owners.  I ask all of them how long they had been in business, and where is their anchor location.  I think I was most surprised out how innovative they where when it came to marketing their business.  Almost all of the vendors where using Social Media to market themselves.  I guess I was surprised since so many store front businesses are slow to embrace Social Media.  The truck owners are extremely active on platforms such as Twitter and FaceBook… and the extremely savvy run their own blogs to keep their customers abreast on not just where they are parked, but also a look behind the scenes.  As a blogger, I was extremely impressed.

Tide was on hand to to bring its “Stainbulance”, to help solve stain emergencies on-site with a supply of Tide to Go.  Honestly, I thought this was one of the smartest booths I have seen at an event.  Believe it or not Tide to Go came to the rescue of several attendees who experiences minor spills and drips on their clothing.  The ESRT’s (Emergency Stain Remover Technicians) were on hand to demonstrate how effective the Tide to Go pens are.

While attending BlogHer14, I came across the Lumineers booth and learned how I could benefit by getting a set. Now, I have thought long and hard about getting them. As a woman, I go through the normal insecurities and for the most part, I try not to think about things that can be approved upon. Every time I am in the mirror, I point out what is positive vs. what is negative. Additionally, I look at cosmetic procedures as being vain. After reading up on the Lumineer process, I thought to myself that maybe my smile would be just a little bit more brighter, or bigger if I took the life-changing steps to get a Lumineers smile transformation. Maybe I would be less self-conscious about taken pictures, or smiling in front of complete strangers, or speaking in front of crowds. Hey House Cats-

Last week I ventured into my very first tea shop, EVER! Palais des Thés offers teas from around the world along with accessories and books.  In addition to teas and accessories they offer “Tea Classes” in their New York location.  Palais des Thés was started back in 1986 by founder François-Xavier Delmas.  Based on my visit to their shop,  I honestly believe that Delmas has discovered the fountain of youth.  He could pass for someone in his mid 30s, but a young woman there referred to him as her grandfather.  I am not sure what his true age is, but he certainly makes me want to drink more tea.

The cozy little shop is located in SoHo, and serves fresh tea daily to passersby. There are a total of 30 locations in 8 countries…. including 2 in New York.  Based in Paris, their tea tasters create signature blends using only flowers, fruits, and spices.  The most breathtakingly awesome blend I came across was the Lavender Tea, shaped like mini pods.  I wish I could afford a whole bin of it… I would not only drink it, but also put it in my bathwater, loll.  At Palais des Thés, you can find teas from China, India, Japan, Sri Lanka, and Paris.

What I liked most about this shop and the overall positive energy flow circulating throughout the room.  Our host were so patient, and open to any and all questions this novice presented. I feel as if I asked them about a million questions about every square inch of their shop.  During my visit, I learned that they are not only selling tea… but peace and serenity as well.  Before I pay them another visit, I am going to fully explore their website so that I can go in prepared with any additional questions.  If you are looking for an healthy alternative to your daily caffeine intake…. check out Palais des Thés!

It seemed like only yesterday that Richard Greenburg showed us the reimagined first glimpses of Truman Capote’s beloved novel about an unattainable girl with a penchant for powder rooms. In what was predicted to be one of the highlights of the Broadway season, Breakfast at Tiffany’s has followed in the footsteps of shows like High Fidelity, Lolita and Carrie.  With the caliber and number of stars connected to the production, attendees may have thought that they were reading astrological charts instead of their prerequisite playbills and the audiences ripe with celebrities like Joan Rivers should have been a sure fire indicator of the shows inevitable success but alas Breakfast at Tiffany’s gives its last curtain call today, April 21st, a mere month after it’s official opening at the Cort Theater.

Emilia Clarke, the normally flaxen haired heroine best known for bellowing about the loss of her dragons on HBO’s wildly popular Game of Thrones, helmed the production as the iconic Holly Golightly. Though incredibly charming in the role there’s very little any actress, past, present or future, could do to set themselves apart when unavoidably compared to iconoclast Audrey Hepburn who originally gave the character life in the 1961 film of the same name. Despite the petite yet cavernous alligator stilettos that Clarke was tasked with filling, I felt that her work was admirable and above all entertaining. The plays male lead, Cory Michael Smith, brought a ballsy vivacious quality to “Fred” that I truly enjoyed. The nuances of the character’s life and perspective are often overshadowed when Breakfast at Tiffany’s is discussed but his performance captured the naiveté, obsession, growth and ultimately desperation inherent within the character.

A guest spot from George Wendt of Cheers fame, costumes by the incomparable Colleen Atwood and a little unexpected nudity should have been those extra little “oomphs” that elevated this play, at the very least, to tourist “must see” status but here we are, saying farewell to Ms. Holiday Golightly once again.

Many have tried to recreate the magic that was Audrey Hepburn and Truman Capote’s masterpiece without success; perhaps Holly was warning imitators and those who lack original ideas when she says that a wild thing can’t be tamed. Let’s all take her advice and move on.
