Let me tell yall something… I am sooo over having the “it” phone. I want a phone that helps make my life easier. I have now owned a touch screen (Wing) for almost 2 years with T-Mobile… and not only have I grown tired of the touch screen, I have slowly developed a hate for T-Mobile the company. I know a lot of you will say all the major Cell Phone companies are the same… and I truly believed that when I left Nextel for T-Mobile almost 2 years ago.
However, I didn’t have the type of problems I have with T-Mobile, with Nextel. Nextel created good quality, solid phones. The reason why I left Nextel was due to the fact that once Sprint bought Nextel… they stopped developing “it” phones. As far as service went, I had no problems.
Now fast forward to T-Mobile… At one point, about 3 months ago, I called T-Mobile to order a new headset/mic (the same one that comes with the phone), the T-Mobile sales girl wasn’t familiar w/ the T-Mobile brand Wing. I bullshit yall not, the lady asked me who was the manufacture… I said, “T-Mobile” she said, “T-Mobile doesn’t manufacture phones”, I said… “That is a common misconception, but T-Mobile indeed makes their own line of phones… I know this for a fact because I am currently holding one in my hand… the “T-Mobile Wing”! After about 8 minutes on hold with the T-Mobile Sales Rep, she comes back and *giggles* then says, “Oh, your right!”
I just shrugged it off as she must be new… now back to the original reason I called. The mic that T-Mobile gives you when you order the T-Mobile wing had broken… so I wanted to order a new one. The rep says, “T-Mobile doesn’t sell the mics that come with the phone”
smdh (SHAKING MY DAMN HEAD!!!!!)
I am sure in T-Mobiles minds this is OK… however in most circles this is ASS BACKWARDS.
The straw that broke the camels back was the rep yelling at me! I was yelled at by a rep who was having a bad day. I called back in and asked the next rep to transfer me to a supervisor…but I was not allowed to speak with a supervisor because, and I quote, “The supervisors really can’t do anything more than what the CSR’s can do”. So what the CSR’s claim to do is, send the supervisors an email. Maybe this is why some of the reps treat their customers horrible. They know they can get away with it.
Next my buttons fell off my phone. Now I, Kitty Bradshaw, am extremely gentle with my phones. I know 2 other people with T-Mobile wings who as long as I have known them to have had a Wing, their buttons have been missing. One day, (November 4th to be exact) I put my phone in my coat pocket… then pulled it out and the buttons were missing. I reached in my pocket and pulled the buttons out and tried to fit them back in and they wouldn’t go. I saw remnants of the rubber glue T-Mobile Manufacture used to fit the buttons on.
The next day, I called T-Mobile and asked if I could take my phone into the store and have it serviced. The rep said, since I have insurance I don’t have to go into the store, all I have to do is mail it in and they will fix it! She then transferred me to the insurance department (Please keep in my mind I am quoting this rep word for word) Now, in my mind I felt like all the money I had been paying each month for insurance is going to come in handy. They will fix my buttons on my phone and I can go on my merry way.
After going through all the hoops, red tape, a few drops of blood, etc… to get a request in with the insurance company… 3 different phone calls later the insurance company said I had been approved to get a phone sent out… now up until this point I have spoken to 3 different people regarding my broken buttons and not one of them had mentioned anything about me paying out-of-pocket to have my buttons fixed!
Finally, the fourth person says… Your application has been approved for us to send you a new phone. The rep went on to say, “All I need to do is transfer you back to customer service and at that time payment information can be made”. So I am like what payment… she says in order for us to send you a new phone, you need to pay $130!
I fucking flipped!!!!! Have they lost their damn minds?! I have been paying $6 a month for almost 2 years and I can’t just get my buttons fixed??!!!! So the insurance rep said well you have a $400 phone so when you look at it… $130 is a good deal! I told her yes, you are right… but if I add $70 to that $130 which will equal $200…. I will have exactly enough to cancel my contract with T-Mobile… which is an even better deal!
Kitty says: I think I am going to post this rant on all my sites, yahoo groups, messages boards, social networks, ning sites, guest blogging sites, etc… because I am that damned pissed with T-Mobile! I feel it’s my duty to stop potential victims!
So, now that we have established that in February, T-Mobile will be nothing more than a bad nightmare I had… the only thing left on my mind is, Verizon vs. AT&T for the New York area… which provider is better?

I don’t know about NY area as far as AT&T goes, but I am totally satisfied with my AT&T service. I left AT&T and went to Sprint… HATED IT! I left Sprint and went to Metro PCS (Don’t know if they offer it in NY) but it was cool… just didn’t like the fact that if I traveled, I couldn’t use my phone unless I was in an area that serviced Metro PCS… So here I am… back with AT&T and still love it! I’ve heard nothing but ridiculous stories about T-Mobile. I’ve never tried them, and as a matter of fact, from what I hear, I never will. But… MSN has an article on their homepage today as a matter of fact, about which cell phone carrier was rated the best this year and VERIZON had the best rating among customers. So maybe you ought to give them a try???
Good Luck homegirl!

I just wanted to clarify that T-Mobile doesn’t manufacture their own phones. Phone such as the sidekick, G1, Wing were made by Third Parties made for T-Mobile. Specifically, HTC is the manufacturer of said Wing mobile device.

Kitty says:
thank you for the clarification but I am not sure what other term I could of used other then manufacture… they look up phones based on the make i.e. black berry, samsung, t-mobile, etc….
the point is how are you a sales rep for t-mobile and not familiar with the t-mobile wing.
thank you again for your comment!

I had a similar problem with T-Mobile when I had a sidekick.. Their customer service people are rude as all hell, she told me every single manager in all of T-Mobile was in a meeting. I gave her my HMM face over the phone and was like well then, I guess I’ll hold. Long story short, she got an attitude, I hung up and called back and got a different person and got what I wanted done (waiving of the 200 cancellation fee).
I’m a Spring/Nextel customer in the tri-state area and they are the best bet.. They have their version of the wing , the HTC Mogul… and their simply everything plan is the cheapest.. and the service is great for you in NYC

I would tell you to get Verizon. I used to frequent in the NJ/NY area and never had a problem. Plus Verizon is on the up and up with new phones unless you want an iphone.

Kitty, the original mrsFAB here… Go with Verizon. #1, you can insure ANY phone with Verizon. (A. T. and Tingular…you can’t) #2, the deductable for all Verizon phones, whether a pda/smartphone, bberry, premium phone, el-cheapo…..it’s the same price…$50 bucks! #3, Veriaon truly has the most reliable network! Verizon has been 3G all along… something that sprint/A. T. and Tingular all now want to brag about. #4, Verizon has techs in the store that can fix ur phone. You don’t have to go to different locations all over town. #5, You can change your plan at any time with Verizon without extending your contract. And don’t let A. T. and Tingular trick you into getting an iPhone. It can do picture text messages adn you can’t change the battery. You have to take the thing to an Apple store or mail it off, which costs $70 for battery replacement!
Since you are a business woman such as myself, I would recommend 2 phones. #1, ANY Verizon Bberry. The Storm and the Curve are my FABfaves. You will get ur emails in an instant. Just like at ur computer. The internet is unlimited and you don’t have to be in a wi-fi spot. The “Storm” comes loaded with an 8 gig memory card, a 3.2 camera with flash, you can put your songs from itunes on it, and the media player is ohsoFAB! Right now for new customers or if it is upgrade time, you can get the $500 Storm for only $199!!! #2, If you are use to a windows based device, I would go with the brand new Samsung Omnia. It is soFAB! It has a 5.0 camera with flash, an fm tuner, it is very sleek, and that to has unlimited internet and email. It does wi-fi, too. You can get it for $269 with a $70 mail in rebate, making it also $199. And with Verizon, you really do get the rebate!!
Have any more questions, you know how to reach me. I am your “go to girl” for all things Verizxn Wireless! *winks* Hopes this helps, chica!

Here’s the rule of thumb with phone companies:
1. Great Phones
2. Great Prices
3. Great Service
Pick 2. I used to have Verizon and I loved them for their service but their prices were WAY too high and they lock down some of their phones. I had a Razr and I had to hack it just to get custom ringtones. Now I’m with Sprint and I’m now experiencing the fun of random dropped calls. We just can’t win.

I’m in Chicago and I had T-Mobile and I HATED THEM WITH A PASSION. In February, i switched to Verizon. I havn’t had any issues. My daughter is having a problem with her phone, but I think it’s the phone.
I had AT&T before and I didn’t have any issues with them either.
That’s just my two cents.

Thank you everyone for your comments! I see we had a Verizon rep come in and make a case. Lets see if we can get an AT&T rep to come in and make a case!

About a year ago I switched from Sprint to Verizon. My signal w/ Sprint was very weak (I couldn’t get reception in my apt) plus I HATED their phones, they were all ugly. So, I chose to go w/ Verizon b/c:
1. During the blackout in ‘03 only Verizon customers had service
2. They have a better selection of phones!
3. Some of my friends who have VZ are able to get a signal in the subway in certain spots.
I’m relatively happy w/ VZ and I’m even happier w/ their customer service b/c they’re ALL based in the states!!

Yeah I’m a lil late, but imma throw my 2 cents in… AT&T is day way to go. Yeah I’m biased as all hell but I haven’t had any problem with then even when they couldn’t decided if the wanted to be Cingular or AT&T, lol. I’ve been in many places where my phone had service and Verizon or Sprint/Nextel didn’t. Perfect example i work on the tracks in the subway and i’ve received calls in some spots while other people have no bars. I have the AT&T Tilt, which is similar to the wing, but the screen tilts up. I’ve had this type of phone for over a year (had to replace the first handset over the summer cause of frequent drops and it only cost $50). Either way, choose wisely
