Kenneth Cole meet Kitty Bradshaw #conversationwithKennethCole

Kenneth Cole 2013_13

Yesterday, I attended the Conversations with Kenneth Cole/ amfAR event at the Kenneth Cole headquarters and showroom.  This event was part networking, part tribute to Kenneth Cole‘s years of commitment and service to bringing awareness to HIV/AIDS, and a Q&A sessions moderated by David Lipke, Senior Editor for WWD (Women’s Wear Daily).

During the Q&A session, we listened to Mr. Cole speak about how he used his platform to bring awareness to a cause that was not necessarily a popular one to support 25 years ago.  Back in the 80′s people associated HIV/AIDS with being homosexual or being of Haitian decent.  People didn’t understand or accept why a single, white male would want to champion for a cause/ disease that was seen as “taboo”.  Kenneth Cole had the foresight to know that through awareness comes prevention.  He used his time, money, and brand to get other celebrities involved and raise money for a cure.  Mr. Cole stated that when he first started, there were only 17 organizations dedicated to HIV/AIDS research.  Fast forward to now, that number has ballooned… but Kenneth Cole stressed that the fight must continue on until a cure is found.

Towards the end, Kenneth Cole spoke about his experiences working along side celebrities who also championed for this cause such as Elizabeth Taylor, Sharon Stone, Elton John, and countless others.  Mr. Cole spoke candidly about his final conversation with Elizabeth Taylor and how through her illness she was still determined to make personal appearances to support HIV/AIDS funding. I honestly enjoyed this event; and must give a special thank you to Heather-Sky McField for inviting me out.  This event provided the opportunity to get insight from one of the pioneers of the HIV/AIDS awareness movement.  He tackled a subject that was not a popular one to address, and went against the grain.  Kenneth Cole made it fashionable to remove one’s head from the sand, an for that I appreciate him.

In addition to the event, we got to view Kenneth Cole‘s Fall/ Winter 2013 collection straight from the runway’s of New York Fashion Week which occurred 3 weeks ago.  I am glad Team Kenneth Cole moved the Q&A session separate from the showroom… I would have been distracted by all of the clothing with their colorful textures, mixtures of metals and intense hues, and metallic sweaters!!!!  *sighs*  This was way better than attending the show itself.  Below are the pictures… please leave comments and tell me what you think.  My favorite moment was getting the opportunity to meet and take pictures with Kenneth and David.  Side Note:  You may recognize David Lipke from his appearance on The Face, episode 2.

Kitty Bradshaw’s Gift Guide 2012: Nordstrom

Hey House Cats-

Tonight’s featured retailer is Nordstrom, the focus of our gift guide.  I have been shopping at Nordstrom since before I could remember.  When I think of Nordstrom, I think quality and exceptional customer service. I have never had a bad experience, or a mediocre one for that matter at their department store. Below, I focused on shoes, and 1 men’s dinner jacket.  Nordstrom also boast their on line of shoes called, GLINT.  I purchased 2 pairs recently, and have included a picture of one of the pairs below.

Lastly, if none of the shoes below strike your fancy, feel free to explore gift cards as an option.  One thing I like about Nordstrom gift cards is you can purchase them online and they can be used both online or in their store.  I was amazed at how I was able to pull up the gift card on my phone and have the cashier scan the barcode at the register.  This is one of the best retailers for gift carding.

COACH ‘Andrea’ Sandal

This is the first time I have ever liked a pair of COACH shoes.  They are always so tacky and over the top with their “C’s”.  Depending on the comfort level, I might purchase these.  I think these are pretty amazing and recommend them for the designer divas on your list.  Clink the link for more information and pricing.

Vince Camuto ‘Lexis’ Pump

I purchased a pair of Vince Camuto booties during Fashion Week.  They are extremely comfortable.  The above heels are extremely feminine.  The silver detailing give them a bit of edge.  I would wear these while shopping with the girls.

Steven by Steve Madden ‘Astrro’ Peep Toe Pump

Clocking in 5 1/2 inches, these high stems will provide extra support and comfort with the platform bottoms, and ankle support.  I have never owned a pair of Steve Madden shoes, but decided to include them to represent the lower price points.  This particular pair comes in several colors and patterns.  I chose the Cheetah PONY since animal prints are the current trend.

Salvatore Ferragamo ‘Faraone’ Cap Toe Oxford

Since there are quite a few male supporters of KittyBradshaw.com, I am trying to incorporate more male items.  Also, in most cases women do the shopping for men… so here a pair of Salvatore Ferragamo oxfords at the recommendation of GQ magazine.  To be completely honest… I am no good at picking out menswear.  I hope you like my choices.

Gant Rugger ‘Black Watch Tux’ One Button Blazer

I love, Love, LOVE this dinner jacket for it’s unique pattern.  Also, it gives you a good excuse to break out your flamboyant bowtie lollll.

NYC Shoe and Tell: Mallory Musante

Team Bradshaw had the pleasure of attending the Mallory Musante “Shoe and Tell” Press Preview and Trunk Show.  Ruia Boutique NYC located on Mercer Street served as the perfect backdrop for this well executed event.  Guest were introduced to Musante’s Autumn/Winter and Spring/ Summer 2011 collections.  Celebrity stylist Yannique Joseph served as event host, taking guest on “Shoe Tours” around the store while detailing the history behind the brand.

During the event, we learned about the frustration Mallory Musante experienced before launching her brand back in May 2009.  Musante had a hard time finding shoes that fell outside of the norm,  which led her to coming out with her own line of hand-painted, one-of-a kind shoes.  Musante’s footwear has been seen everywhere from the Housewives of New York, to New York Fashion Week on the catwalk.

Mallory Musante Shoes are genuine leather with acrylic (non-chip) paint, bold colors, and unique hand painted designs that are sure to express your personality and personal style perfectly.

During the event we ran into NYC Socialite Blogger, Christine of Tineey.com, who was seen enjoying one of the mini-cupcakes by Craving 4 Cupcakes. The event brought out other notable press, stylist, and fashionistas who seemed to have enjoyed the shoe ambiance.
