Heidi Klum hosted an intimate event with  Dr. Scholl’s to launch DreamWalk Wednesday.   DreamWalk is a line of products aimed to make the most fashionable heels more friendly.

While Jimmy Choos and Louboutins look fierce.  Every woman who has worn them can attest to the amount of pain they experience at the end of an evening.

So here is where old-school footwear specialists Dr. Scholl’s come in.  Some of the new helpers include High Heel Insoles. These make stilettos more comfortable via gel arch supports that take the pressure off the ball of the food and wicking fabric that keep feet dry.  There are DreamWalk Sole Expressions Heel Liners that prevent blisters and help fit. There are lots of cushions, creams and files to help your feet after taking those shoes off too.

As a supermodel and tv host, Heidi Klum has spent her share of hours in painful shoes.  The launch event even had monster-like representations of how bad shoes feel (which actually would make for fun footwear).  Together with refreshing mocktails and experts to give your own problem heels some foot therapy, Heidi chatted with guests about her own experience in the quest for shoe comfort.

I know I can’t part with my favorite pumps.  At least I know I have allies to keep me sane.

New York Fashion Week: Mara Hoffman Fall 2014 @MaraHoffman

 

While I thought I was sitting in a marginally lit tent in New York, the veil was dropped when the models stormed the stage during the Mara Hoffman show. Unbeknownst to me, I’d been transported to an exclusive part of the Mojave desert with a very strict (and pricey) dress code.  The presentation opened with a black and white mosaic tunic with a casual pant to match. Models for the first of the show were paired with a low heel black pump, which appeared at times distracting due to their quality.

Delving deeper in the show, all the model were treated to golden tipped braids as they revealed more of the Hoffman collection. The cropped top and skirt duo seamlessly complemented the show opener, as bursts of bold colors, patterns, emerged from behind the tent walls. Pantone color of the year, radiant orchid (and variations of the hue) weaved in and out of the Parson graduate’s more captivating pieces. After several form accentuating ensembles of silk textured turquoise, royal blue, and orchid flashed the audience, more embellished pieces became the trend for Ms. Hoffman’s production.

A quarter of the way into the show, sequin outfits flowed without abandon on the Mercedes Benz stage. The first three pieces that initiated the parade of sequin dueled being admired for its craftsmanship and polarized for it gaudiness. As Mara Hoffman’s show progressed we being to see a plethora of cream and browns, intermittently splashed with the staring colors of orchid, black and blues.  The twin camel sweater was a bittersweet experience which made what followed to be a welcomed reprieve.  Ironically, it was Hoffman’s all black and predominately black efforts at the end of the show that stood out within the sea of colors and sequin.  These pieces we are a sensual blend of culture, style and creativity, not necessarily void in the other components of the collection but more apparent in the previously mentioned.

It was a sometimes warm and shimmering production, other times, cold and direct, either way it was a journey that inspired substantive conversation. Isn’t this what is demanded from fashion?

New York Fashion Week: Lee Jean Youn Fall 2014 @leejeanyoun

 

 

On February 8th, I had the pleasure of attending the Lee Jean Youn fashion show.  Upon entering, my curiosity was immediately piqued by the layout of the catwalk; which could only dare to prepare me for what’s to come.  This show could have been a drawn out disaster or a sublime masterpiece. I must say the effort was clearly present and the result was simply extraordinary!  The set-up of the show was unconventional from the beginning.  I was excited as soon as I took my seat and waited for the models to take to the catwalk. His collection challenges the norm of haute couture, with his intricate designs influenced heavily by traditional Korean Culture. Both the show, and fashion was a poetic love letter to Asian high fashion. His seductive mix of leathers , fur, fabrics, textiles coupled with his ingenuity, blissfully marries to create a fresh take on what is sometimes blindly called” fall fashion”.

Youn’s impeccable color choices set the tone for a presentation that could only deliver perfection. I loved everything from the tufted leopard skirts and bras made from purse straps, to the deliberate saunter of the models versus the typical aggressive pace on the catwalk. It’s hard to have one’s attention drawn away from the stunning apparel, but I would be remissed as a connoisseur of fashion if I didn’t mention how beautifully the bags and hats where executed. The details and paneling on each of the bags from Lee Jean Youn, solidifies his reputation as a highly revered milliner. His talent for creating art in the form of accessories beamed during the production.  The feathers that adorned some of Lee Jean Youn’s hats tastefully added flair while knitted sun hats were deliciously exaggerated and fun.  The slick pairings of accessories and pieces for the models have to be commended for aesthetically crafting a story that encourages boundaries to be tried and pushed.

On a personal note, Team Kitty Bradshaw has been following Mr. Youn since 201o when he debuted during fashion week with Concept Korea.  He definitely made an impression on us then, and it has been such a pleasure to watch the evolution of Lee Jean Youn.  For those of us paying close attention, it is quite evident that Youn is a greater talent than Christian Siriano.  It is only a matter of time before the rest of the world knows.

Are the New York Rangers Targeting Andrew Ladd? Madison Square Garden has been heating up for the last 3-4 weeks, as the Rangers have made a significant dent in the Metropolitan Division.  The roster is showing signs of cohesion that have been missing in previous years.  Lines are coming together, but improvements in the top six may be necessary to catch the white hot Pittsburgh Penguins.

Playoff depth is a major concern for the Rangers, as teams like  Chicago, Boston, and Anaheim have incredible depth up and down the line-up.  The Penguins, dealing with injuries and suspensions throughout the first half of the season, owe their success to a system built to win.  The Rangers are going to need to land a big fish.

Reports have been floating in that Glen Sather has had discussions with the struggling Winnipeg Jets, and rumors say that he may be willing to move Carl Hagelin in a potential deal targeting one of the biggest fish in the pond, Andrew Ladd.

The point-per-game winger is a proven commodity, a two-time Stanley Cup winner (Carolina in 2006, Chicago in 2010).  A 6’3”, 205 pound two-way winger, Ladd is known for his energetic game, locker room leadership, and a good deal of grit when the game calls for it.

 

A Replacement for Callahan?

Ladd’s contract is another selling point.  He is scheduled to earn only $4.4 million against the salary cap.  That figure is much more team friendly than the contract of Ranger’s captain, Ryan Callahan ($4.825 million), who has been injury prone and producing fewer points over the last two seasons.

Ladd is a durable two-way winger, only missing one game in the last five seasons.  Callahan’s contract comes to an end after the 2014 season and could expect, based on comparable players, to fetch $6 million on the open market.

Acquiring the Winnipeg winger could allow Sather to get a great return on Callahan as a rental, improving the prospect pool by bringing back some high draft picks.  Improving your long-term success while shedding salary cap space should be the goal of any GM.

Speculative as it may be, Sather should move quickly to inquire about Ladd before other teams come knocking.  The Pittsburgh Penguins, Toronto Maple Leafs and other teams are rumored to have interest in Ladd as well.  With only 42 days to go until the trade deadline, and the Rangers a likely lock in the playoffs, it’s time to start preparing.

Recipe:

  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 3/4 ounce cherry liqueur

  • 2 strawberries
  • 3/4 ounce lemon juice
  • 1 ounce simple syrup

 

*Muddle the cherries and strawberries; add all remaining ingredients and shake with ice.  Double strain into a sugar rimmed coupe glass and top with sparking wine float.  Garnish with a strawberry.

Hey House Cats-

Let me start by saying that there are no showrooms dedicated exclusively to Full Figured Fashion in New York City.  Aside from the Ashley Stewarts and Lane Bryants, there aren’t really any boutiques either.  Now to take it a step further, I do not shop at the above mentioned for reasons that range from lack of quality and style to being over priced.  I guess when you are the only players in town, you have to right to charge high prices for low quality.

For those of you who are full figured, and either live in or come to visit New York…. I have something special to share with you today.  New York now has a showroom that is dedicated to full figured fashion, sizes 14 and above.  They specialize in formal gowns and wedding dresses.  The name of this oasis is: Mielle Boutique, “where size doesn’t matter”.  Located in Tribeca at 185 Franklin St. in New York City, and ran by mother and daughter duo Ellen & Michelle.  Ellen Zwalsky, CEO of Mielle Boutique is an industry veteran with exclusive access to some of the worlds top designers.  Mielle clientele benefit from these connections because instead of having to run around town, crazy, looking for the perfect dress… Zwalsky has the best in plus size fashion brought directly to her boutique for a one stop shopping experience.

Prior to me visiting the “by appointment only” boutique, I was EXTREMELY skeptical.  Most plus size fashion is very matronly.  I am young and want something borderline slutty and classy, lolll.  Basically, no one can dress me, better than ME!  I had this vision of granny dresses, cotillion lace, and high necklines.  I pictured the showroom to be old and musty… like a twice worked over consignment shop.  Honestly, most stores miss the mark by miles when it comes to full figured fashion.  The cuts are all wrong, and they don’t have a full understanding of the differences between body types.  In order to run any clothing brand, you must have a full understanding of body types and know how to dress individuals according to their shape.  Prior to visiting the Mielle Boutique, I didn’t think that they would have many options for me.

So, I am going to do something here that I don’t normally do which is admit that my preconceived notions were completely WRONG!!!!!  The Mielle Boutique was young and fresh.  It was bright and airy, and I entered an environment that was both welcoming and encouraging.  Note: there is no negative talk regarding self image allowed.  If your self esteem is low, Ellen and Michelle come in and boost your spirits with both wine and positive affirmations that are genuine as they understand the struggle.  During my visit at Mielle Boutique, the ladies assembled at least 20 looks for me, and pulled me out of my safe zone.  Additionally, there were no commission based sales pressure.  Their bottom line is finding the outfit that takes you to your personal best regardless if it is the lowest priced thing on the rack, or the most expensive. The choice of styles ranges from young and body hugging, to mature and conservative.

Super Playboy Fragrance and New York Comic Con

This past weekend I was invited by Team Super Playboy Fragrance to come out and meet with them during Comic Con 2013 here in New York.  My experience included meeting with their team, speaking about the products (which includes not only fragrances but Eau de Toilettes, Deodorant Body Sprays, Shower Gels and many other toiletry products depending on your location). During my time with the brand, I got to also witness one of several “Super” Speed dating events that were sponsored by Super Playboy Fragrance.  Approximately 100 Comic Con attendees, in full costume, participated in the speed dating activities with about a minute to potentially meet their future husband or wife.  Once the speed dating portion was complete, they had the opportunity to go inside of the sexy photo area and take pictures with a Playboy Bunny.

Upon leaving, participants got to experience their Sexy Super Alter Ego by sampling the Super Playboy Fragrance.  The collection includes 5 different scents for women, and 7 colognes for the men.  Playboy Fragrances recognizes that no two people are alike, and every scenario requires a special scent. Super Playboy Fragrance developed a series of scents to compliment and enhance any of life’s sexy situations.

My personal favorite out of all of the products is the Super Playboy New York for Men.  I love the New York packaging that contains 80s-esque graffiti, and the equally appealing scent.  Prices range from $16-$21 and is available through their website for purchase.  One cool thing about the Super Playboy Fragrance line is that if you visit their website, you can sign up to be a member of the Super Playboy “Seduction Club“, online community.  Through the website, you can get access to tips, and special events.  Additionally, all of this revolves around your favorite scent.  You simply click on the bottle that you own, and get inducted into the life of a Super Playboy or Playgirl.

During my time with Team Super Playboy;  I took photos of the speed dating session, and got a picture with a Playmate.  I was so excited for this opportunity as I had never attended Comic Con, nor had seen a Playmate in person.  I think their are millions of people who would have relished the opportunity.  I certainly didn’t take it lightly, and am so appreciative that I got to work with Head Over Heel media.
