The Old Navy: Black Dress $29.94

ASOS: Belt $30.38

DV by Dolce Vita Shoes: Sandals $89.94

Studded Oversized Envelope Clutch: Purse $50.00

Ok, I have never done this type of post before because I prefer to fly under the radar.  However, in my effort to try new things with the blog, I am going to this a try and post one of my “Hipster Chic” looks.  The reason why I refer to myself as hipster chic is because I simply just don’t care, lolll.  Yes, I care about personal appearance, but I do not care about following trends.  I pretty much dress according to the theme music in my head.  If you like my look, GREAT!  If not, SUCK IT! lolll.

So the theme for this outfit was black.  I like to wear lots of black during the fall and winter months.  This year I am going to challenge myself to incooperate more color… but starting out it’s going to be a slow process.  Lately, I have been buying lots of accessories to make the looks more chic.  This particular day, I wanted to build an outfit around my oversized clutch.  I know most people try to not be so matchy-matchy, but *shrugs* I was going through a black and gold moment, lolll.

I probably should have worn make-up, and like my personality… my hair is always rebelious, loll.  *shrugs* whatever.  Let’s go back to the clothing, I am surprised that lately “The Old Navy” has been selling some cute pieces.  I actually purchased a few dresses from “The Old Navy” that I plan on giving my own personal spin to.  The key to wearing The Old Navy is not wearing the pieces in heavy rotations.  The quality of the materials used is low, and not meant to stand the test of time.  So with that being said, hand wash in cold water and hang dry.

Anyways… Simple, Sexy, Comfortable, Chic… I hit all of the points with this one.  Please, let me know what you think.

The Kitty Bradshaw’s Bright Side, Done Right! #GlamIslandSpiced

The Kitty Bradshaw’s Bright Side, Done Right!

I am a California girl living in New York. I absolutely adore all things bright and in color. Spring and Summer are my trigger months; while Fall and Winter I tend to wear black a lot due to the fact that I am very awkward during the cold months. I am not used to being in the cold, and I am guessing that is something I will never warm up to. I wear black because it is safe and absorbs heat, loll. So all Winter I walk around like a gothic princess. This season/ year I have vowed to do better. I am going to take que from people back home in California and make Spring and Summer a year round fete.

Bright Side3

Over the last 30 days I have been buying bright, bold pieces to make a statement. I am donating old comfort pieces to charity, and making way for more personality to shine through my everyday look. I plan on experimenting more with layering, and building my scarf collection. Normally, I purchase animal print scarves. I am now moving upward towards wildly colorful and flamboyant ones. I also want to include socks, and continue to build my wild collection of handbags. Lastly, let’s not forget about the gloves. Every day during the cold months I want to look like a walking, festive party about to happen, loll.
The first purchase was an electric blue dress that is so striking in color; there was little need to accessorize. While most people would run away from something so striking… the overall response when I wear that dress out is overwhelmingly positive. I have people asking where I purchased the dress from. While I was in Chicago last month, I tried to steal a gorgeous bag from my friend, loll. Although, Ms. Raijean didn’t allow me to keep it- I was able to borrow the bag to wear with my dress. I loved it so much that I purchased it.

Bright Side

I purchased this Neon Pink beauty from the UK. The Cambridge Satchel bags are these awesome genuine leather bags that come in a variety of sizes and colors. Particularly their neon bags are a must- have for every fashionable woman. I ordered mine while I was still in Chicago, and then waited patiently for it to be shipped from overseas. I am absolutely in love with it. I wore it over the weekend, and those not familiar with the brand were stopping me on the streets asking me where I got it from. This bag is probably my favorite item purchased this year.

I loved my Neon Pink bag so much, I went on and purchased a Navy Blue and Neon Orange bag of the same brand. My motto is, “When you find something that works for you, buy two”. Honestly, I have been known to buy 3 or 4, loll. Most likely, I will go on to buy a third Cambridge Satchel bag… but I will hold off for now until I completely restock all of my staple pieces.

Bright Side2
Something else I invest heavily in is broaches. I think that broaches add charm to any outfit. I know that broaches are seen as old school. The fact that they are old school, and therefore often overlooked is exactly the reason I currently love them.

In conclusion, I guess based on this post I have learned that my bright side of Summer is carrying it on through to the Winter, loll. *shrugs* It is Summer year around in my mind and spirit.

NYC Fashion: Spring Into Linea Pelle with Belts, Purses, Wallets

Hey House Cats-

Last week, thanks to Kimmie of Kitten Lounge, I had the opportunity the go back to the Linea Pelle showroom.  During this visit I got to meet Creative Director, Andrew Cotton and preview the Spring, Summer, and Fall lines as they prepared to launch in department stores and boutiques across the country.  It was great to listen to Andrew describe the process that went into creating each piece.  We got up close and personal with the belts, handbags, and wallets.  All of the brands items are genuine leather; with various textures that ranged from washed leather with a “butter soft feel”, to embossed python leather.  All of Linea Pelle’s pieces are very special, and includes some sort of variation that makes them unique.  Of course the shapes vary, but specifically every hand bag has either metal embellishment and/or a detailed satin lining.  In my opinion this is the perfect way to tell a real bag from an imitation bag.

While attending the preview, I received the Sybil Solid Tote bag.  This tote serves as the perfect weekend bag…. or as I affectionately call it, the “Hoe on the Go Bag”, lolll.  It is perfect for fitting in produce from the local Farmer’s Market, or a change of clothes for an overnight visit.  I am absolutely in love with it, and can not wait to begin using it.  One of my favorite bags was the Grayson Top Handle Crossbody bag in stone.  I own over 200 purses, and I can’t say that I own one similar to this particular style.  When shopping, I often purchase the same color… but never the same style of handbag.  I think that I am going to welcome the Grayson into my handbag family :)

I also really liked the Alex Zip Messenger bag.  This purse is perfect for any woman living in New York City.  Big enough to hold the essentials, small enough to not side swipe or spoon someone  during rush hour on the train.  In all honestly, I wish I could have taken one of everything home…. but then again I wouldn’t have had anywhere to store them.

The belts and bracelets were amazing as well.  They ranged from rocker chic, to classic with subtle metallic detailing.  Below are pictures from my visit, please let me know what you think.

Kenneth Cole meet Kitty Bradshaw #conversationwithKennethCole

Kenneth Cole 2013_13

Yesterday, I attended the Conversations with Kenneth Cole/ amfAR event at the Kenneth Cole headquarters and showroom.  This event was part networking, part tribute to Kenneth Cole‘s years of commitment and service to bringing awareness to HIV/AIDS, and a Q&A sessions moderated by David Lipke, Senior Editor for WWD (Women’s Wear Daily).

During the Q&A session, we listened to Mr. Cole speak about how he used his platform to bring awareness to a cause that was not necessarily a popular one to support 25 years ago.  Back in the 80′s people associated HIV/AIDS with being homosexual or being of Haitian decent.  People didn’t understand or accept why a single, white male would want to champion for a cause/ disease that was seen as “taboo”.  Kenneth Cole had the foresight to know that through awareness comes prevention.  He used his time, money, and brand to get other celebrities involved and raise money for a cure.  Mr. Cole stated that when he first started, there were only 17 organizations dedicated to HIV/AIDS research.  Fast forward to now, that number has ballooned… but Kenneth Cole stressed that the fight must continue on until a cure is found.

Kenneth Cole 2013_28

Towards the end, Kenneth Cole spoke about his experiences working along side celebrities who also championed for this cause such as Elizabeth Taylor, Sharon Stone, Elton John, and countless others.  Mr. Cole spoke candidly about his final conversation with Elizabeth Taylor and how through her illness she was still determined to make personal appearances to support HIV/AIDS funding. I honestly enjoyed this event; and must give a special thank you to Heather-Sky McField for inviting me out.  This event provided the opportunity to get insight from one of the pioneers of the HIV/AIDS awareness movement.  He tackled a subject that was not a popular one to address, and went against the grain.  Kenneth Cole made it fashionable to remove one’s head from the sand, an for that I appreciate him.

In addition to the event, we got to view Kenneth Cole‘s Fall/ Winter 2013 collection straight from the runway’s of New York Fashion Week which occurred 3 weeks ago.  I am glad Team Kenneth Cole moved the Q&A session separate from the showroom… I would have been distracted by all of the clothing with their colorful textures, mixtures of metals and intense hues, and metallic sweaters!!!!  *sighs*  This was way better than attending the show itself.  Below are the pictures… please leave comments and tell me what you think.  My favorite moment was getting the opportunity to meet and take pictures with Kenneth and David.  Side Note:  You may recognize David Lipke from his appearance on The Face, episode 2.

Spring 2013: Zang Toi

Official Website

Le parlez vous francais? The Spring/Summer ’13 collection of Zang Toi should have been one of site specific pretenses, as the aesthetic of the presentation was delivered straight from the beautiful imagery of the French Riviera. The collection was elegant in the poised stature of the collection’s premier pieces, that you knew were created to be show stoppers. Toi’s creative influences seem to be molded by a renaissance feel of classic tailoring, and historically constructed dresses of boisterous nature. Beauty defined, as the first initial piece of the collection made its way down the runway, a dress of immeasurable length from direct observation of a champagne hue, quite magical, enough teasing okay.

The show was a delightful enchantment between today’s fashion purveyors, and Toi’s immense taste for luxury and elegance. Every piece presented a classic air of regality but held a strong sense of modernity, with prime tailoring and design. Fine fabric selection of silk and tuffe engulfed the collection in Toi’s knack of excellence and incredible flair. As the show progressed the crowd and I were introduced to finely tailored suits, capes, top hats and gowns of texture fit for the modern day princess. I must say the return of the coat tail seems to be the best decision sartorially for today’s gentleman. What I enjoyed most of the collection is Toi’s versatility and ability, to remain grounded in the conceptual formula surrounding the collection and to execute the principles and qualities flawlessly.

My first interaction with Zang Toi’s work and I must say, the collection was palpable and clearly stated Toi’s prominence in luxurious wardrobe construction. Ending the show in full glory, Toi received a standing ovation and even graced the catwalk in joyous form, humbly  receiving the love given by the crowd and I. Hopefully the imagery I provided above can help you visualize the beauty of Zang Toi’s collection, if not there are images below available for assistance…

Spring 2013: W118 by Walter Baker

Official Website

A funky retrospective, nothing more and nothing less. Well maybe not, there is a very elaborate passion in Baker’s influence of his Spring/Summer ’13 collection. The bold color spectrum, stereo headphone adorned models and you have a peculiar look at women’s wear through the “Baker lens” a lens defined by excitement action and let us not forget innovation. The presentation was giddy and fueled with a very energetic atmosphere with more than just bouncy music but the platform in which the models were presented and the energy of the purveyors who knew they were in store for a very eclectic collection.

Walter Baker will now only bring one concept to mind bold color, and multi-blended prints reminiscent of a tie-dye low affair. The collection included simple cropped t-shirts exuberantly dashed with patterns of geometric shapes and soft but bold saturated colors. With Walter Baker, the conventional is too safe and there is an extreme need for edgier, trend defying women’s wear still adhering to the style of today. The collection was dipped in rich hues of pink, yellow, red and even indulged in the darker section of the color spectrum with a black lined cocktail dress, with silk accents and transparent mesh trim, it was quite an interesting piece amongst the other fits of the “bright anomaly”.

The collection really stood out, as it was my first presentation for the day, Baker definitely does go down on my fave list. Fabulous tailoring with vivid enriched colors calls for a celebration and that was the scene of W118′s presentation. The designer’s first year at NYFW was enjoyable and landmark enough to solidify Baker as a designer to be reckoned with. Overall, I can say the show was fun and I look forward to another collection next year. The “Walter Baker aesthetic” has been recognized, I am a witness.

Spring 2013: David Tlale

David Tlale’s spring/summer 2013 collection was a fashion lover’s feast and I am begging for a second serving!

His collection was revealed in my favorite type of show, a presentation, and with his intricate work I wouldn’t have it any other way. To me this really was not a fashion show, it was more of an art exhibit, and by the expressions on people’s faces and neighboring conversation others felt the same way. One thing I love about this collection is that his inspiration was clear, it easily understood that different cultures and geography had some sort of influence on this collection. I even felt that his choices in models added to that inspiration, having a diverse group of individuals adorned in his culturally diverse garments. His color pallet consisted of subtle earth tones (which seems to be an on-going trend for spring/summer 2013… take notes for your personal wardrobe) such as; hues of taupe, yellow, orange, coral, black, and white. Not to mention the bold prints that he used went perfectly with his color choice.

Side Bar: The models at this presentation KILLED IT! There is nothing more that I love then when attending a presentation and while I’m taking pictures the model starts serving me ‘the face’! And let me tell you, they were serving it … with a side of fabulous and a drink of fierce!

This collection was many things; daring, inventive, complex, and powerful, amongst many other things; filled with long gowns, sexy pant suits, lace, skirts, sequin, culturally inspired, and bold print … I absolutely love it all. David Tlale is a designer of a very rare breed he brings consistency and substance to the world of fashion and I for one am a HUGE fan!

Spring 2013: Mathieu Mirano

To Infinity and Beyond . . . is the place where Mathieu Mirano took us with the reveal of his spring-summer 2013 collection. He took us to a futuristic place where dinosaurs and space cadets are all emerged in an edgy, eclectic, yet fabulously chic world of fashion.

Upon entering his presentation, all the eyes could see were what appeared to be white ice mountains/ white solid cloud-like daggers. It automatically sent chills down my spine, because his choice of décor was an open invitation to let on-lookers know that he is definitely a force to be reckoned with.

One thing, that stood out to me about this collection is the wide variety of women he seemed to reach out to, it was very …’lions and tigers and bears, oh my’! By that I mean there was at least one ensemble for every type of fashion forward woman. The business chic chick, the glamour girl, the no nonsense fashionista, the subtle trend setter … & more. Not many designers can put together a cohesive collection of garments including:

  • A white sequined cape with a multi-rainbow yoke and navy embossed calfskin shoe with acrylic heel.
  • A navy chevron hem coat, navy leather t-shirt, and navy Mikado trouser.
  • Orange leather and silk organza long jacket with orange zipper, orange silk know floor length dress, and yellow embossed calfskin shoe.
  • White silk halter gown and silver vertebrae belt; and white leather puff jacket, white knit tank, and white leather puff skirt.

Pretty impressive right, and please don’t be that stubborn person who is like… ummm no (because you know you really are). Overall I absolutely loved this presentation, the garments, and the entire atmosphere of the Mathieu Mirano spring/summer 2013 show. It was extremely innovative and fresh, and that is something we as fashion lovers love to see from designers new or seasoned; it doesn’t matter because at the end of the day the objective is to be wowed and I for one was WOWED!
