Kitty Bradshaw’s Labor Day Antics- Eastern Parkway #iBlogNYC

Eastern Parkway

Hey House Cats-

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned before how everyone year I prance out onto Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn for the West Indian Day Parade. I am a huge fan of the parade, and jokingly refer to myself as a “Fake West Indian”. When I first started attending the parade, I would pick an island to represent and wave their flag. Fast forward to now I decided two parades ago to just be true to myself and wear my American Flag. For the most part I always have a great time and have not experienced any of the violence that the media is so quick to report.

So this year something happened that was totally out of character for me. It all started when I decided to make my own nutcracker out of fear of drinking someone elses concoction, not knowing what was actually being put into it. One year I had a nutcracker with no liquor in it… by the time I popped the lid off the vendor was long gone. So this year I opted for my own mixture. I mixed Clarkes Court Pure White Rum, Domaine de Canton Ginger Liqueur, and St. Germain Elder Flower. I mixed the 3 parts into an empty 20 oz Sprite bottle. My next plan of action was to spend more time primping in the mirror instead of eating something before I spent the day drinking. As soon as I hit Eastern Parkway, I ran into a man selling Sorrel. I mixed the Sorrel with my liquor mixture and began to sip on the mixture like my life depended on it.

Eastern Parkway2

At some point… around 4pm I decide to eat, lollll. Do yall see how this is a series of small fails leading up to the big FAIL? I ate my food while standing up and next thing I know Eastern Parkway started spinning. I immediately moved towards a bench and put my head on my hand to try and stabilize… that was the beginning of the end. I must have threw up 20 times off to the side of the bench. I was so embarrassed as I feel it is not lady like to vomit in public. I was what they call, “College White Boy Wasted” lolll. For a time there I didn’t think I was going to make it home… I started calling all of my Brooklyn friends, but everyone was also drunk out on Eastern Parkway. I was able to get in touch with my one friend, but in the long process of trying to hail a cab, I was able to sober up and decided to go home.

Do you all remember when you were in kindergarten and all of the kids would take part in nap time?! That was my subway ride home… it was nap time for all drunks. As far as I am concerned New York transit could have passed out blankies and turned off the lights. Everyone on my car was ASLEEP, lmaooo! Below is a list of 10 things I did and didn’t do on Eastern Parkway on Labor Day. If you attended the West Indian Day Parade on Labor Day, let me know your experience :)

10 Things I did and didn’t do on Eastern Parkway on Labor Day

1. Got felt up by a snake while drunk (Note: I am scared to death of snakes)
2. Thew up 20 times
3. Made a new friend
4. Went to sleep on a bench
5. Ate West Indian lo-mein for the first time
6. Didn’t make it the halfway point of the half way point of the parade.
7. Watched Anthony Weiner dance off beat on his promotional float for the mayor’s race
8. Helped lost tourist from Germany find their way
9. Danced in the streets while it rained
10. Had an amazing time!!!! :)

NYC Restaurants: Carribbean Spanish Fusion at Corlette

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending a tasting at Corlette Restaurant in the Bedford Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn.  Corlette is a Caribbean- Spanish fusion eatery that is best known for their tacos and sangrias.  I must admit, I was blown completely away by their fish tacos that are some of the best that I have tasted in Brooklyn.  They were quite tasty, that I decided to take an order home, lolll.  Before I go head first into the awesomeness which is their tacos…. let me first describe the scene.  This restaurant is what you refer to as an anomaly of sorts, in the sense that I wouldn’t have expected this restaurant on that particular block.  I am not saying that it was located in the hood or anything…. but Corlette could easily fit into a block filled with hipster restaurants.  I do understand that the neighborhood is changing, so I guess you could say Corlette is a pioneer when it comes to new establishments in the area.  During my walk to the restaurant, I took note of the businesses around Corlette which consisted of Dunken Donuts, a Bodega, and Home Depot.  I think residents of the neighborhood that encompasses Corlette are extremely fortunate.  I wish I had a place like this on my block.

Speaking of the residents, while I was ordering a drink at the bar I had the chance to speak with one of Corlette’s patrons.  A retired police officer, and resident of the neighborhood… he spoke enthusiastically about the restaurant and talked about how he often stopped in.  I think that if Corlette continues to garner the support of the residents, they will be around for a long, long time.  Corlette has outdoor dinning in the back that gives dinners a lounge feel.  In addition to dinning, Corlette also host events.  I was told by PR that they had just hosted an event the week prior for the Mayweather fight.

Now in regards to the food and cocktails.  I had 1 curry shrimp taco, 1 fish taco, and the Seared Salmon as an entree.  I think that Corlette’s menu has something for everyone.  With that being said, everyone at the event had their own personal favorite dish.  Everyone in attendance raved about one item or another.  While I thought the curry shrimp was just ok, another person fell truly-madly-deeply in love with it.  I went crazy over the fish tacos, while someone thought it was just so-so.  I suggest that anyone reading this go in and discover what their personal favorite.  As I stated before there is something for everyone.
In regards to the drinks… the cocktails were exceptional.  I had two different types of Sangria, and a Rum Punch.  There are so many different reason’s to visit Corlette…. the food, weekend brunch, the drinks, the atmosphere and events.  If I am ever back in the area, I will definitely stop back in.

Brooklyn Hair, Confidence and Cocoa Mane Salon

Cocoa Mane

Today, I had the pleasure of going to see Janel of Cocoa Mane salon in Brooklyn for a routine upkeep of my weave du jour, lolll.  This trip was extra special since me and my sister in blog Vanessa ( will be attending a taping of the Anderson Cooper show on Tuesday.  I can not tell you all how pleased I was with the final result.  My hair came out so extraordinarily well, I can’t stop gushing about it in the mirror.  I am certain you all can relate when I say that having a new hair style gives you a fresh perspective on life.

I guess it could be considered vain to go on and on about ones physical appearance, but I am being honest when I say today’s visit to the salon gave me a much needed boost of confidence after a very bad dissolution of a relationship. The worst aspect of going through a sudden breakup is your self esteem taking a plunge.  I guess when I think about it, Janel provided chicken soup for my soul without even saying a word.  She performed her magic with a touch of her flat iron; therefore transforming this coal into a diamond.  The process was pretty standard… a deep washing and conditioning, about an hour under the dryer to ensure my tracks were thoroughly dry, and finally the styling.  I think the difference was the love of hair and care for the finished product that made the difference.  So anyways… of course I took pictures from today’s visit.  We took pictures from all around to give you all a full view of the final product.  As you all can see, my hair is LAID! lollll

Note:  As a member of the illustrious Raider Nation, I refuse to mention that other team in California.

This Sunday marks Super Bowl XLVII (47th).  For those of you that are totally oblivious to the upcoming event…. the Baltimore Ravens and the evil step sister from the Bay Area are matching up.  The game starts at 6:30pm.  The national anthem will be sung by Alicia Keyes.  The halftime show will be performed by Beyonce. This is the first Super Bowl in history where the opposing head coaches are brothers.  Coach John Harbaugh and San Francisco’s Jim Harbaugh.  The Baltimore Ravens finished their season out with 10-6, and the scum of California finished their season out with a 11–4–1 record.  Considering who is playing… Beyonce is probably the most interesting element associated with the Super Bowl this year aside from the two rival brother coaches.  Below is 3 locations holding Super Bowl XLVII parties with promotional rates.

JASS Shinning “Lite” Spray

Janel also sells hair in her salon…

As I stated in the video, I got to try out a few of the products while at the salon.  They curled my hair for the GAWDS!!!!! lolll

Side Note: My friend Zillz said I was stroking my hair in the video like a Kitty Cat (Dr. Evil, Cee-Lo Green), lolll.

I had a great time during the media event.  I was so impressed with the presentation, I couldn’t wait to start using the products on my own. I wrapped my hair as Raynetta suggested, then in the morning I put the Shinning “lite” Spray and Keratin Smooth Remedy Serum to lay down my Cow-licks.  I was extremely happy that the serum worked.  Below is the address to the salon as well as link to their website.
