Kitty Reviews: Miracle At Saint Anna

October 8, 2008

Alrighty, let me jump right into this one… This movie started out horrible! It wasn’t the actors as much as it was the writing. I was annoyed at how they were over exaggerated and the Black Soldiers came across as buffoons. But then low and behold the movie took a sharp right turn and went for the better, right around the time they crossed the river…. then it went full speed ahead!

I have never, ever, witnessed a movie that started out horrible then ended up being fantastic!
Spike, I just wish you would of took it a step further with the writing… I feel like you played it safe with the characters. I mean we got a taste of them being militant but they could of been slightly more mad at Whitey (note: can yall tell I have been watching blaxploitation movies this past weekend, lolll?).

I felt like Spike was trying to get some Oscar Buzz by making critics happy … but too many people in the industry don’t like Spike Lee especially Clint Eastwood, lolll! You already crossed that line of playing it safe when you depicted how the US military treated the Buffalo soldiers during WWII. I mean don’t just stick your toes in the water, I think Spike Lee should of jumped all the way in. So the end result… Spike Lee failed to impress the critics…. *thinking* do critics ever give movies on race relations good reviews?! I’m not trying to throw the race card down… I am just pointing out that the topic of race is a very uncomfortable subject in this country…. so don’t expect any awards, good reviews, or pats on the back for movies dealing with the treatment of Blacks, Hispanics, Gays, or anyone else not falling into the status quo.

So the ending of the movie, I almost cried. I got a little misty… It was one of those “The Green Mile, your wife’s cornbread shole is good!” moments. *shrugs* I’m a girl and I am a mean girl so when something draws me to the point of tears… it was truly sad.

One thing critics are saying about this movie is that it had to many story lines going in different directions… however with all the many, many story lines Spike Lee managed to do what most can not… which is offer closure. At the end of the movie we knew the fate of each and every character be it life, death, happy or sad… everyone had an ending.

Kitty says:  For the people who did see the movie.. did yall notice Omar from “The WIre” in the beginning?!  He was the one crying for his mama…. it’s good to see him getting into movies… he was my favorite character from The Wire.  :)

One last thing I wanna cover… my new boyfriend of the week… Laz Alonso… I’m not sure if I should admit this to yall.. but he definately kept my attention the whole movie. Laz Alonso is to Miricle at St. Anna what Orlando Bloom was to Lord of the Rings… :) Sexy sexy sexy…. I wonder if David Dust will come over an give his seal of approval, lolll

Kitty says: Chocolate spannish dudes are the best!!! yum yum…. it was like Christmas in the middle of the movie everytime he came on the screen!  :)

    Darling Kitty -

First of all, I get all misty-eyed when anyone even mentions The Wire (let alone Omar). That was the best show that has ever been on television.

Secondly - HELLO Laz Alonso!!! OMG, he is gorgeous. I will have to do some digging to find some shirtless pics…

Speaking of shirtless pics, I recently came across some lovely shots of your forever husband (as opposed to ‘boyfriend of the week’) Terrell Owens. Mr. Owens will be a “Daddy of the Day” on my blog soon.

Hope all is well with you!

    XOXOXOXOXOXOXO

    Whitey :)
