Kitty Ebert reviews: The Lovely Bones

The Lovely Bones is about a 12 y/o girl who was murdered and the story behind how her family deals with it. The movie isn’t as melodramatic as it seems. They really delve into the psyche of the killer. The ghost of the little girl not only haunts him but the family as well in hopes that they solve her murder. This movie wasn’t predictable, so that’s always a plus in my book. I have a few questions about the movie… and for those of you who haven’t seen the movie; I promise you these questions aren’t a spoiler. These questions are sub plots that the movie started but never finished.

  1. What ever happened to the plan to kill the sister?! Like, he was thinking about the sister then he changed to the lovers in the corn field?!
  2. How did the dad make it to the hospital? Did the neighbor help him?
  3. Why was there a need to toss the safe in the hole? Why not get the kitchen floor one too?!
  4. Did the ghost whisperer and the cute boy hook up?!

I give this movie a B- …. It would have been perfect had they not went back and watched the movie and realized they left a lot of unanswered questions.

Mark Wahlberg … Jack Salmon

Rachel Weisz … Abigail Salmon

Jake Abel … Brian Nelson

Saoirse Ronan … Susie Salmon

Stanley Tucci … George Harvey

Susan Sarandon … Grandma Lynn

The biggest plot hole… How the hell did a 50 year old man lift that safe from his basement and put it in his truck in the first place.

  2. Yes!!! I was just talking about that at work and no one wanted to hear me on it!!!! By-the-way… didn’t he live across the street from them? Why when they looked through the book did no one keep an eye on him to see if he didn’t try to leave???!!!!
