April National Poetry Month 2012: Jonathan

So the month of April is national Poetry Month and I always churn out something into the universe. I love poetry; it is something I have always done. Sometimes it is difficult to get into my zone… but when the spirit hits me I go for it. I am not sensitive about my work, either you like it or you don’t.

Jonathan

We are outside and the air grows still,
So still I believe this could actually work.
Our relationship is the silence going against the grain of the storm.
We could be inside and the structure wouldn’t contain us,
thats how toxic we were.
We could be a great distance apart, and move in sequence.
Three mountains between us,
Two people never meant to be,
and I would know whenever your heart was off roaming,
It was never with me.
You are the greatest thing that never happened,
The antagonist to my life,
The sadness behind my soul
It makes no sense,
I love you.

Upon glance, you are the summer sun that hits my skin,
Your presence activates my spirit.
My senses heightened,
I feel rage, joy, happiness upon your hello.
The best drug was Jonathan-
Yet I am always in mourning,
We are two magnets that repel.
It makes no sense,
I love you.

Circumstances happen…
I could spend a lifetime being entrapped by you,
I could be that other woman,
You could be my stalker in the bush,
I could love you more than me,
You could be King Kong with new found power not willing to let me go.
We could continue on in circles,
then go down with the toxins of our romance,
and I would still never have you.
It makes no sense,
I love you.

Two families, 8 kids,
Senior citizens, in our golden years,
It ain’t happening, I don’t see it.
Functioning addicts,
Who never kicked the habit.
Trees matured, stars aligned,
And we are referred to as stuck in our ways.
We stayed in the same place,
as if it were the first time.
A lifetime spent window shopping,
We never did the unthinkable.
It makes no sense,
I loved you.
