Jimmy Choo’s Debut at H&M 11/14

Jimmy Choo's Debut at H&M 11/14

By Lauren Glassberg

NEW YORK (WABC) — Shoppers will be lining up this weekend to get Jimmy Choo shoes at more affordable prices. It’s just one example of high-end designers making their merchandise more accessible.

“We approached Tamara Mellon from Jimmy Choo and and immediately they said yes,” H&M’s Jen Uglialoro said.

So get ready to shop for Jimmy Choo at H&M. The super-high-end shoe company that sells super-high stilettos is now partnering with the Swedish and affordable mega store. There are 12 different styles, some of which will look like they’re straight out of the Jimmy Choo boutique.

The difference is that they’re not made by Jimmy Choo’s shoemakers in Italy. But the designs are still Jimmy Choo.

“It was all about capturing the DNA for the H&M price point,” Uglialoro said.

And there’s more. There are accessories and clothes with an 80s inspired rocker chic. That means lots of leather and suede.

And there are even shoes and clothes for men.

And when a high-end designer does a line for H&M, crowded stores are a promise. And that’s why it makes good business, particularly in a recession, according to retail consultant Tom Chin.

“There are really two formulas for success,’ he said. “One is high value orientation, and the other is events that drive traffic, and I think this is the latter path.”

The retailer attracts customers, while the designer reaches a new shopper.

The Jimmy Choo for H&M line will be in 200 stores worldwide and 10 in the U.S. And five of them are right here in New York.

Here are the H&M locations where Jimmy Choo items will be sold:

  • 5th Avenue and 51st Street
  • Lexington and 59th
  • 34th and 6th/Broadway (Herald Square)
  • Penn Station
  • 86th Street and Lexington

Doors open at 10 a.m. on Saturday, and the shoes range from $69.95 to $299.
