Good News New Yorkers…

There will be no fare hikes taking place in 2012 (don’t get too comfortable they will be back in 2013 and 2015). The MTA said they will earn their money honestly by cutting staff cell phones, company vehicles, sharing office equipment, and freezing union wages. It’s funny because I ASSumed they were already doing that, and only rasing they MetroCard fares as a last resort. *shrugs* Who am I but just a lowly cashed-strapped straphanger, who gets regularly scheduled monthly anxiety attacks trying to figure out how I am going to pay for a $104 NY MetroCard.

I must admit that some weeks I have to hold off on buying a monthly card, and instead purchasing a $29 weekly card. I know that the result constitutes paying more in the end… but *shrugs* one must do whatever it takes to survive in New York. Oh course the question keeps popping up more and more… “Why am I fighting everyday to live in a city that financially kills off the weak by forcing them into debt”?!

Yea, I know… there’s no city in the world like New York City. This is the only place where just barely getting by is considered a good thing. Soon, very soon I will be making my transition to another city. My next city may be boring as hell, but at least I will be able to afford to be bored.
