Congrats Archbishop for New York, Timothy Dolan

Archbishop Timothy Michael Dolan was ordained to the priesthood on June 19, 1976. Named Archbishop of New York by Pope Benedict XVI on February 23, 2009. He was installed as Archbishop of New York on April 15, 2009.
Today, January 6, 2012 he was named a cardinal by the Vatican. For those of you who don’t know, Cardinals are the POPE’s top advisors, and choose his successor upon his death.
Dolan was quoted as saying, “It’s as if Pope Benedict is putting the red hat on top of the Empire State Building, or the Statue of Liberty, or on home plate at Yankee Stadium”.
Although, I am not Catholic, I cannot help but be extremely happy for Dolan. He seem’s very down to earth, and personable.
Dolan, along with 21 others, will be formally appointed on February the 18th in a ceremony at the Vatican. There was one other American elevated to cardinal by the name of Edwin O’Brien… I am not 100% sure, but I think he is currently based out of Jerusalem. Congrats to all!
