Three models all the same waist size, all different curve IDs

Have you ever jumped up and down, shake and shimmied to get into an awesome pair of jeans? Sure you have, we all have but NO more, Levi’s has come up with a jeans that will let you save your best dance moves for the club.

This week Levi’s debuted their  Curve ID, and I had the pleasure of attending the event.  The Curve ID is designed to flatter the curviest woman and enhance the less curvy. I personally have a love/hate relationship with jeans because of my muscular legs and booty but  after hearing how the ID was defined I was ready to be measured. The verdict was…CURVE I.D.  Bold.  The curve ID takes into consideration a woman’s shape and curves not just their waist measurement. Currently there are three  ID’s for women to choose from,

The “Bold Curve” best for woman who tend to get a gap in the back of their jeans.

The “Demi curve” for woman where the waist fits but doesn’t flatter.

The  “Slight curve” for where the jeans tend to be tight in the waist.

When I tried on the Bold bootleg I was in comfort heaven. Each Curve I.D  comes in various shades and fits and range approximately $59-79.50. Give them a try you’ll thank me later.

Ladies don’t fret it you don’t fit into any of these categories (Get measured first), 20% of the population of women don’t but Levi’s has jeans coming for you this winter.

*if anyone reading is in New York, Levi’s will be giving away 1,000 pairs of Curve ID brand jeans for free. The event starts at 10am in Bryant park, come down and bring something you’d like to donate to Goodwill then be fitted for your jeans.  Levi’s Blog . If that’s not a sweet enough deal come here the guest performance by Janelle Monae*

American Woman Exhibit at the Met

They say you can’t know where you’re going until you know where you’ve been. And with Fashion Week Spring 2011 around the corner, this is a good time to catch up the history of American women’s fashion. The American Woman exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art provides the perfect opportunity to do so.

The exhibit chronicles the style of American women from the 1890s to the 1940s, and my, did things change over the years.

It begins with looks from the 1890s. The athletic Gibson girls played sports –from horseback riding to cycling – in long tweed skirts. Those mini skirts of today’s tennis era were unheard of back then. The 1900s ushered in the bohemian era, and was quite possibly the inspiration for the outfits of Three’s Company’s Mrs. Roper in the late 1970s. (Think long, flowing dresses with dropped waists and silk headscarves).

My favorite era in the exhibit is the 1920s Flapper era, source of many a Halloween costume these days. This was an era of sexual freedom, and women expressed it themselves with red lipsticks, bob haircuts, long strand pearls to accompany their mini slip dresses.  This era was the precursor to the age of the screen siren, which found Hollywood actresses decked out in gorgeous floor length gowns – from china silk to gold lame. These are looks we usually only see at red carpet events today, but, back then actresses such as Lena Horne (Stormy Weather) and Katherine Hepburn (Bringing Up Baby) delivered their movie lines in great style.

Sorry I have no first hand visuals for you! Picture taking was forbidden, and words simply cannot do this exhibition justice. You can catch American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity at the Met for another week (it closes on August 15th). Until then, check out these gallery photos from the Met.

Book Review: The Shack

"The unplanned organism is a question asked by Nature and answered by Death. You are another kind of question, with another kind of answer." -Morpheus

A few months ago a friend of mine insisted that I read “The Shack” and after hearing very briefly about it I knew she was right. I was at a crossroads in my life and had turned away from my spirit, I believe my friend knew this. I did a little more research on the book before actually reading it and was blown away by the amount of praise it had received.  A lot of them from non-Christians as well as Christians, all glowing. I will focus on the content of “The Shack” in this review with just a little insight into what it did for me. I have to warn you it is hard not to give away some of the story as the book is mostly dialogue.

“The Shack” by William P. Young

Four years before the story begins Mack Phillips’ youngest daughter is abducted and murdered while on a family vacation. A organized yet frustrating search turns up evidence that Missy was taken by a notorious serial killer and murdered in a small abandoned shack. The story begins with Mack under the shadow of what has become known as “The Great Sadness” when he receives a note to meet at the Shack. The note is signed, Papa the name Mack’s wife Nan affectionately uses for God. A student of the Seminary, Mack is suspicious of the note as he had been taught that God no longer has open dialogue with humans. Uncertain, confused and angry Mack returns to the scene of his child’s murder where he has a week-long encounter with God.

Standing at the door Mack ponders how to let God know he has arrived, does one knock? After all it is God he’s meeting, wouldn’t he know? As Mack stands in front of the door the anger and pain he thought had subsided returns and he reaches to bang on the door when the it flies open and he is greeted by a heavy-set Black woman.  The woman knows who he is and smells of jasmine perfume (like Mack’s mother). As Mack enters the house Papa, as she is known throughout the book gives him a big hug and introduces him to the remainder of the Holy Trinity, Jesus (the Son) is young with Middle Eastern features,  Sarayu (The Holy Spirit) is a small Asian woman. There is a lot of dialogue between the Trinity and Mack, a lot of which he doesn’t understand but what shines through is how much love passes between them.

In each chapter Mack is challenged to look at his views on religion,God, free will and humanity through conversations (and work) with each part of the Trinity. With Papa he explores God’s vengeance, and her ability to intervene in her “kids” lives, With Jesus he explores being human yet Godly and lastly and really the most interesting are the conversation in the gardens of his soul with Sarayu. The dialogue between Mack and The Trinity will take the reader on an emotional rollercoaster, happy moments blossom of sadness and despair several times. And by the end of Mack’s week-long spiritual therapy session he  emerges a different, healed man. He’s learned to love again and most importantly forgive. Some would say he’d learned to be Christ-like.

My personal take on the book was simple, I loved it. When I read this book I was going through a very challenging time in my life, I turned away from my spiritual side and began to rely on earthly wants and needs and it crippled me emotionally. After reading “The Shack” my eyes were open to how God actually sees us, and I realized my constant striving for perfection is my own cross, it’s not one that I need to bear.  There is a section in the book about hierarchy, rules and the ten commandments and the explanation on why we have them. As I read it, it was as if a light bulb clicked in my head and I embraced it.  I recommend anyone that has ever battled with religion read this book, and finish it even when you don’t feel like you can’t.

The Limited Holiday 2010 Collection

“Life is sweet.” It’s so sweet that the folks at the Limited made that statement the theme of the preview party for the Holiday 2010 collection.

The Holiday 2010 collection is made up of flannel shorts, sweaters and chunky scarves for the day; classic black slacks and banded bottom blouses perfect for the office; pencil skirts and pea coats; and of course little black dresses – some with sequins – perfect for a holiday party or two.

There were many different pieces presented, and of them all the accessories stood out most. I’m a sucker for cocktail rings, and the Holiday collection is chock full of them. There are also multistrand necklaces and jeweled bracelets.

The crazy thing about fashion is that the collections are presented seasons in advance, so while I know it’s ridiculous to think about this while it’s scorching hot here in New York, I’m looking forward to wearing one of those huge infinity scarves when the temperatures drop.

Review: PUR Water Filter

"The unplanned organism is a question asked by Nature and answered by Death. You are another kind of question, with another kind of answer." -Morpheus

So of course, New York has experienced a HEAT WAVE for the last week.  The key to staying healthy is drinking lots of water.  Recently, the Kitty Bradshaw attended a gifting suite where the KittyBradshaw.com team got to try the PUR Water Filter at home.  Arie, from KMP Blog, volunteered to write-up the review.

This guest post was written by Arie Rich, Editor of KMP Blog.

I was given the opportunity to review and test the PUR Flavor Options Faucet Water Filter, and I am glad I did. If there’s anyone that loves water is me. If you see me I always carry an aluminum bottle water with me at all times. If we go out to eat or drink, I always order water on the side. At work, I always stay hydrate, with water in my aluminum bottle, and at home I use the PUR Flavor Options Faucet Water Filter.

This product is amazing; you get clean purified water straight out your faucet. If plain water is too plain for you, you can add some flavor; with just the push of a button you can add tasty fruit flavor to your glass of water. There’s no sugar added, no calories, no dyes, just clean, purified, fruit flavored water.

It was a breeze and a snap to install, no tools needed, works on standard faucets.
Another fantastic feature was the built-in Electronic Filter Life Indicator that lets you know when it’s time to change the filter. Green is good, yellow, and then red for when it is time to change.

With the new PUR Flavor Options Faucet Water Filter you’ll get up to 100 gallons of clean, purified, filtered water for you and your family. Why spend money on bottle water when you can have a product like this right at your home?! We can all use a product like this just in time for the summer. Why not give it a try.

Visit
PUR Water for more information.

My main thoughts on the filter is:  Everything is so expensive here in New York, including the bottled water…. why not invest in a filter to save on money.  Plus it’s so hot… the filter will save me a trip walking to the store.
