Kitty Ebert reviews the movie: Cadillac Records

I went to the good ole Magic Johnson Movie Theater in Harlem, USA!

This movie was decent. If you liked The Five Heartbeats, The Temptations Movie, or The Jackson 5: An American Dream movie… then you will like this one.

The movie is centered around Leonard Chess, a Jewish man from Chicago whose record company, Chess Records created such stars as Chuck Berry, Little Walter, Muddy Waters, Etta James, and Howlin Wolf. The majority of the movie is centered around Mr. Chess and Muddy Waters. I was pleasantly surprised that we didn’t have Beyonce crammed down our throats the entire movie with her limited acting ability.

Beyonce did a much better job this go around… and with good acting coaches, I too can become an mediocre actress. The Cadillac Records director did something that previous directors who worked with Beyonce in a film failed to do, which is: LIMIT HER SCREEN TIME and only bring her out when it is time to sing!!!! lolll

Oscar Performance?! Do yall honestly think Beyonce perfected her acting craft to the level of Betty Davis, Katherine Hepburn, Angela Basset since her last film Dream Girls?! Yea, keep wishing…. I will say she did a good job imitating Etta James stage performance. If you have seen Beyonce perform Etta James “At Last” then you have seen Beyonce’s performance in Cadillac Records. That’s it, that’s all folks!

Let me ask the people who have seen this movie…. don’t yall think Gabrielle Union had more screen time (and presence) then Beyonce in this film?! Poor Bey got upstaged by yet another supporting actress. Now wouldn’t it be cruel if Gabrielle Union got nominated for an Oscar and Beyonce didn’t lolllllll. I mean seriously when Beyonce was passed out on the floor doing her best Dorthy Dandridge/Halle Berry impression… who did they call? Gabrielle Union!!! to save the day!!!!! lmaooooo

The rest of the characters who had real screen time in this film… I would like to say Mos Def did an awesome job as Chuck Berry!!!! Also the dude who played Howlin Wolf (I’ve never heard of this artist before) did very good.

Shout outs to my favorite character from The Wire being in this movie “Clay Davis” as the radio DJ. I always got love for my “The Wire” characters.

So I give this movie a C+…. what?! Yea it was good and so was The Five Heartbeats, The Jackson Five Movie, and The Temptations Movie… it had shiny Cadillacs, loose women, over protective father figures, junkie musicians… all the makings of an excellent C+ movie!!! Now go on somewhere before I start rambling on again about my disgust for that damn Twilight movie!!!

I am glad that you reviewed this movie. While you know that I am a Beyonce stan, I do agree that she really can’t act and I prefer that she sticks to singing. I actually don’t care for her version of “At Last”. Her southern drawl was coming thru in it *cringes*. Anywho, I will see movie… when it comes out on cable tv! lol
