Amy Ruths: You Can Do Better!

Valentines started late in the evening for me. By the time my boyfriend got to my house I was starving! The only place I could think of that stayed open late was Amy Ruths. I called up Amy Ruth’s and was told by their staff that there would be a 30 minute wait…however upon arrival there was a 45 minute to an hour wait due to the fact that they only had 2 servers on staff the night of valentines.
Side note: I really want to do a review on Amy Ruths because I truly like their food but every time I go there it’s a different experience. One day you might have “aiight” service, one day you might not. I have never had great service there… and it’s unfortunate because if they took the time to encourage great customer service… they might be on to something. Take Sylvia’s for example…. nasty food, good service! Sylvia’s seems to do more business, and has more popularity. Good service goes a long way!
So any ways, after standing there in line at Amy Ruth’s for 30 minutes “in the cold” not only was the line not moving on the outside we all on the outside could look in and see that no one was being served on the inside. So my boyfriend came to the conclusion that we most likely would be waiting in the cold for 2 hours only to get inside and wait 3 hours for food… then on top of that they would charge us an automatic 18% gratuity. So we decided to leave…

Maybe one day I will be able to write a more positive review on this restaurant.

Amy Ruth’s is no longer owned by Carl Redding and is not Black owned.
Mr Redding just opened a new place called ‘Doc’s’ in the same area.
Charging an automatic gratuity is illegal unless you have a group of 4 or more.
Hi Joe,
Well it clearly states on their menus that overnight service has an automatic 18% gratuity charge. *shrugs* Maybe the law has changed.

I love Amy Ruth’s!!!! I haven’t had bad service there though, I did have bad Kool-aid which is almost just as heart-breaking.
Maybe next time will be better.
I went to Amy Ruth’s when it first opened up. I was in high school at the time. LOL. I remember when that spot had like 2 people in it tops lol. I was supposed to go there with a friend the other day but the spot was packed. Gal I was with was one of those people that gets cranky when not fed lol.
So, we hit up a spot right across the street. I think it was called food for life and supreme was in the title somewhere lol. The only beef I had with them was they had like no real meat on the menu, just fish, mostly salmon and whiting. Unfortunately, I am allergic to seafood, all of it. Fortunately, they had other vegetarian options and ONE chicken dish I could deal with lol. I ended up going with a salad to start and a chicken dish that came with fish but they just gave me more chicken instead.
They have some homemade dressings and stuff. Go for the twinnette, delicious. They had some sun sauce stuff for the chicken too. It’s mushroom based. LOL. The atmosphere is really chill too. The waiter was a cool ass dude too. He was fun as hell. He was a lil overworked when I was there. But, it all went down good. Also, you gotta try the candied carrots. It’s cocaine, no lie.
Even tho I am allergic to seafood, I would go back there for the salads and side dishes lol.
