I rarely post celebrities on my website… but Kanye’s statement is poetry in motion.   I don’t condone the use of the N-word… but I totally feel what Kanye is saying in regards to fashion.  Fashion is what makes you look and feel sexy.  No one can tell you what fashion is… Fashion/ Style is different for everyone.  When you are your best, people will take notice.  *shrugs* and if they don’t understand you, they will try to nail you to the cross.  Make your own mark, don’t let anyone else mark where you should stand. -Kitty Bradshaw

The below was “borrowed” from Kanye West Blog (The Best Blog on the Web). http://www.kanyeuniversecity.com/blog/

WHEN IT’S ALL SAID AND DONE, REMEMBER THE FEARLESS, REMEMBER THE DREAMERS, REMEMBER THOSE WHO REPRESENT THE GHETTO…THE FAIRY TALE OF NOTHING TO SOMETHING. I’M BRIEFLY SADDENED BY NEGATIVE COMMENTS, BUT I HAVE TO REMEMBER THOSE PEOPLE ARE SCARED, INCAPABLE OR JUST PLAIN IDIOTS. WE ARE THE F*CKING ROCK STARS BABY. NO COCAINE, JUST LIFE MY N*GGAS!! NO COCAINE, JUST LIFE! IT’S FUNNY TO ME WHEN FASHION BLOGGERS DOWN OUR OUFITS AND THEN SUPER JOCK OUTLANDISH sh*t ON THE RUNWAY BUT THEN THEY DRESS MAD PRUDE AND DON’T LIVE FASHION. WE LIVE IT MAN. F*CK THAT, WE LIVE IT!!! WE LIVE IT SO HARD PEOPLE LIVE THROUGH US! WE REPRESENT YOUR INNER SPIRIT!! THE CHILD IN US ALL, THE BRUTAL HONESTY, THE NAIVETY, THE BRAVE WARRIOR, THE ADRENALINE THAT ALLOWS A MOTHER TO LIFT A CAR IF HER CHILD WAS TRAPPED UNDER IT! REMEMBER, THERE WAS A TIME WHEN EVERYBODY DISSED MICHAEL JACKSON EVERY CHANCE THEY COULD. IMAGINE THE PRESSURE OF BEING A TRUE ICON. VERY FEW HUMAN BEINGS ARE STRONG ENOUGH TO TAKE CONSTANT HATE!!! IF WE DON’T DO WHAT YOU FEEL IS THE SH*T, YOU BEAT US UP VERBALLY AND MENTALLY, LIKE A CATHOLIC SCHOOL TEACHER BEATING A CREATIVE STUDENT INTO SUBMISSION. I CAN HEAR YOU SCREAMING ‘COLOR INSIDE THE LINES!!!’ WELL F*CK YOUR COLORING BOOK, COLOR BY NUMBERS APPROACH TO LIFE. AT THE END OF THE DAY WHO ARE WE HURTING??? OH “THE NEW BLACK???” SINCE BARACK IS PRESIDENT BLACKS DON’T LIKE FUR COATS, RED LEATHER, AND FRIED CHICKEN ANY MORE?! WHEN YOU TRULY UNDERSTAND CULTURAL SETTINGS, BOUNDARIES, AND OUR MODERN DAY CASTE SYSTEMS, THEN YOU CAN FEEL THE GLORY AND PAIN FROM THE DAYS OF KINGS IN AFRICA TO THE NEW KINGS OF THE MEDIA. LET THE BALL PLAYERS DANCE AFTER THEY SCORE! IT’S LIFE MY N*GGAS, IT’S LIFE! REMEMBER CLOTHING IS A CHOICE. WE WERE BORN NAKED!!! FRESH IS AN OPINION, LOVE IS OBJECTIVE, TASTE IS SELECTIVE, AND EXPRESSION IS MY FAVORITE ELECTIVE. NO MORE POLITICS OR APOLOGIES!!!

NYPD & FDNY Save Lives in Haiti

AP

NEW YORK — Officials say a joint New York City Police-Fire rescue team in Haiti has pulled out two children alive from the rubble of a collapsed two-story building in Port-au-Prince.

Police spokesman Paul Browne says the 8-year-old boy and 10-year-old girl had been trapped for a week and were severely dehydrated. He said the children were rushed to an Israeli tent hospital where they were being treated.

Browne says the team recovered the bodies of three children from the same site earlier in the evening Tuesday, but they were pronounced dead at the scene. He says a rescue team from Virginia joined the NYPD and FDNY in the effort.

Browne says the boy and girl were the fifth and sixth individuals pulled alive from collapsed buildings by the New Yorkers since their arrival in Haiti on Saturday.

Kitty Ebert Reviews the Movie: Precious

January 11, 2010

I have seen a few movies in the last 6 months but none of them have interested me enough to write a review.  The movie Precious has been out since November, and I finally got the chance to go see it in the energy and space that I needed to see it in.

For those putting off going to see it because they feel like it may be “too depressing”, the movie is no more depressing then a movie such as “The Color Purple”.  Why would one be depressed?!  … especially if you didn’t experience any form of abuse growing up.  At most, you will walk away from the movie saying, “Wow, she had a hard life”… then carry on with your day.

I watched this movie…  and to be honest it hit a little too close to home for me.

At one point in the movie Mary Jones (played by Mo’Nique) said to the social worker, “Precious and my grandson belong to me”.  She said it in a way as if they were her property.

In this same scene, she went on to try and seek sympathy in all her misery.  Out of all of the damage that she caused, she wanted to be seen as a good parent.  At the same time, Mary Jones didn’t want Precious to find happiness…  she wanted Precious to be just as miserable as she was.

Precious (played by Gabourey Sidibe) said something that really spoke through me, “You won’t see me again…. I see you for what you are.”

There were so many key parts that struck a chord… I highly recommend this movie.

I read the book “Push”, in which this movie is based on a few years back.  Whoever wrote the screenplay for this film did an excellent job.

I give this film the grade: A

In Remembrance of Eunice Johnson

January 10, 2010
eunice_custom

Eunice W. Johnson visits with designer Yves Saint Laurent.

R.I.P. Eunice Johnson… her story is an inspiration to black women on the grind.

Man… I am truly saddened by her death.  Eunice’s story is awesome… its women like her that I look up to.  She was a strong black woman with drive… what I mean by “Strong Black Woman” is when she started out back in the 30’s … she had a lot of obstacles with segregation, sexism, and all that other bullshit as expected during those times.  She had this goal in her head that needed to be accomplished which was IMO to make the world see that Black Women are beautiful too.

Mrs. Johnson is the reason for the Black Supermodel ….. and anyone in fashion, if you are truly in Fashion you need to recognize her passing.  I believe we had this conversation on Twitter the other day where I talked about how I get tired of having to explain myself as a black woman.  If it wasn’t for women like Eunice I don’t think I would have anywhere to draw inspiration from.

Here is the article on Eunice http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/10/business/media/10johnson.html?src=twt&twt=nytimesstyle

In Remembrance of Eunice Johnson… a great woman well worth a moment to reflect over.
