Is Ashanti ready for The WIZ?

May 30, 2009

I don’t know…. hmmm she did an ok job. She didn’t over do it.. but at least she proved she could actually sing. I think they are different levels of vocal range, and of course she is no Stephanie Mills… but she is no Macy Grey either. I think over time she will get better.

Ashanti (Native New Yorker) will be performing the roll of Dorothy for a three-week limited engagement. The Wiz will June 12 – July 5 at New York City Center (W. 55th Street between 6th & 7th Avenues). Tickets range from $25 – $110 and are available at the New York City Center Box Office (West 55th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues), through CityTix® at 212-581-1212, or online at www.nycitycenter.org.

7. $10 Purses-  I, Kitty Bradshaw, am a Purse Whore!!!!!  I have loved purses ever since I was toddler and realized the importance of a good bag.  From high end to unknown… from pricey to $10 Sample Purses…. my only rule is I don’t buy Fake Designer purses! I like the feeling of owning an original, not an impostor.

8. I love taking the train… it is the most interesting thing of my day.  Plenty of Native New Yorkers hate it… but *shrugs* nothing could be better in my world.  The only time I get annoyed is if I am underground for more then an hour going somewhere like “Flatbush or Queens” in those instances I pass on the trip, lolll. I also will not take the train to the airport.  Which leads to my next point…

old_limo_8

9. Car Service to the Airport- LOVE IT!  It is the most relaxing thing… I tried the Super Shuttle on my last trip to Chicago but realized it was just like taking the bus… so on my way back I kindly hopped into a town car from Newark and was able to unwind on the way back into the city.  The car had a TV and heated seats… what more could I ask for?!

10. Street Fairs/ Vendors-  They always have the most inexpensive handmade/homemade goods.  I got a pair of Amethyst Drop Earrings from the last one for $5.  The food is always good…. the bigger the street fair the better the experience.  Check out the listings for all the NYC street Fairs here.

Sonia Sotomayor from the Bronx!

picture_26

Here are some facts I found on about Sonia Sotomayor.  I dedcided to feature her on my site because she is a Native New Yorker!

  • Sotomayor, who grew up in a public housing project in the Bronx, is of Puerto Rican descent.
  • born June 25, 1954
  • Sotomayor was ten years old when diagnosed with juvenile diabetes.
  • Sotomayor, who is divorced, has no children.
  • If Sotomayor is appointed to the court, she will be the third woman ever to serve on the Supreme Court (after O’Connor and Ginsburg) as well as the court’s first justice of Hispanic descent.
  • Sotomayor graduated from Cardinal Spellman High School in the Bronx.
  • Sotomayor did her undergraduate work at Princeton, graduating summa cum laude in 1976, and then went on to law school at Yale Law, where she was awarded her Juris Doctor degree in 1979.

MTA, here we go AGAIN!

May 13, 2009

mta

Well, no surprise to anyone the MTA fares are going up yet again. They seem to go up once every six months and I keep asking myself what in the hell does the MTA do with it’s money. At the rate the fare hikes are going, in 2 years a monthly metro pass will be as high as a care note.

On Thursday, May 7, 2009 Gov. David Paterson signed a 40-page bill that will raise about $2.26 billion annually through the following:

1. Charging all businesses that live within the MTA service area, a .34 cents employer charge. Umm won’t the employers turn around and charge the employees… so in the end we end up paying anyway?!

2. Starting in the middle of June, all fares will be increase:

Single Fare $2 will go to $2.25

Monthly Cards will go from $81 to $89

Later on this year anything that even remotely has to do with driving a car will see an increase to bail out the MTA from registering your car to riding in a cab.

Stay-cation: MegaBus to Maryland

megabus

I visited Maryland this weekend by way of the emphasis Mega Bus… supposedly the most clean and punctual out of all the traveling buses. The most stressful thing I had to do was find out where the bus picked me up at. My bus left from 31st and 8th avenue.. in the back of Penn Station… directly across from Billy Blacks Bar-B-Que.

0_image_339

The dropped me off and later picked me up from the Baltimore, White Marsh Park & Ride…. Here are some directions I found on the web… no address came up. Maybe the Ikea can be used as a nearby landmark. The Ikea you can see in a short distance through the trees lolll.
