Kitty Bradshaw reviews restaurant: Mama Mexico

February 28, 2009

ny_mama_mexico

After my boyfriend and I left Amy Ruth’s, he made the suggestion we eat Mexican food.

We get off the train and are walking down this quiet street with similar buildings…. then all of a sudden from a distance I see this building that is an anomaly of sorts.  All I know is I see this building at the end of a long block was lite up, covered in Christmas lights!  So I asked my BF was that the Mexican restaurant and he asked how did I know?! I told him the Christmas light and Easter decorations gave it away! (note: I am exaggerating w/ the Easter decoration but it was indeed over the top)

SO we get to the restaurant and as soon as we stepped foot in we immediately stepped out of New York City and into a small Spanish town.  New York is so overwhelming it is rare to find a restaurant that makes you feel like you are in another place.  Mama Mexico was packed on Valentines night/ early Sunday morning!  It was lively and festive… it had Mariachis playing live music!  The drinks were ABUNDANT!  Think big like B-B-Ques… and they were colorful and strong!  It was so much going on I couldn’t focus on my BF… I kinda just had to relax, sit back, and observe!

Amy Ruths: You Can Do Better!

Amy Ruth's

Valentines started late in the evening for me. By the time my boyfriend got to my house I was starving! The only place I could think of  that stayed open late was Amy Ruths. I called up Amy Ruth’s and was told by their staff that there would be a 30 minute wait…however upon arrival there was a 45 minute to an hour wait due to the fact that they only had 2 servers on staff the night of valentines.

Side note: I really want to do a review on Amy Ruths because I truly like their food but every time I go there it’s a different experience. One day you might have “aiight” service, one day you might not. I have never had great service there… and it’s unfortunate because if they took the time to encourage great customer service… they might be on to something. Take Sylvia’s for example…. nasty food, good service! Sylvia’s seems to do more business, and has more popularity. Good service goes a long way!

So any ways, after standing there in line at Amy Ruth’s for 30 minutes “in the cold” not only was the line not moving on the outside we all on the outside could look in and see that no one was being served on the inside. So my boyfriend came to the conclusion that we most likely would be waiting in the cold for 2 hours only to get inside and wait 3 hours for food… then on top of that they would charge us an automatic 18% gratuity. So we decided to leave…

Maybe one day I will be able to write a more positive review on this restaurant.

Kitty Ebert reviews: Madea Goes To Jail

By now most of you have formed an opinion on Tyler Perry and his movies. I had the pleasure of going to see Madea Goes To Jail last weekend and was thoroughly entertained. I laughed like it was nobodies business.

TP makes movies for Christians and anyone else who believes in the most high. MDGTJ was in my opinion the best out of all of TP’s plays that transitioned to film.

Unlike most movie reviews; I am not going to go over this one with a fine tooth comb. I will say that for the 160 minutes that I sat in the theater I escaped from life. In TP’s world there is no cursing, and people believe in forgiveness. Also in his movies, people live by a moral code, and believe in the family unit. If a person is so jaded and against those things that happen in TP’s fantasy world then you will not enjoy his movies.

I give this movie an A-

Barack Obama’s State of the Union Address

February 24, 2009

Below you will find video and transcript of Barack Obama’s first State Of The Union Address. 2-24-09

Text of President Barack Obama’s address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday evening, as prepared for delivery and provided by the White House:

____

Madame Speaker, Mr. Vice President, members of Congress, and the first lady of the United States:

I’ve come here tonight not only to address the distinguished men and women in this great chamber, but to speak frankly and directly to the men and women who sent us here.

I know that for many Americans watching right now, the state of our economy is a concern that rises above all others. And rightly so. If you haven’t been personally affected by this recession, you probably know someone who has — a friend, a neighbor, a member of your family. You don’t need to hear another list of statistics to know that our economy is in crisis, because you live it every day. It’s the worry you wake up with and the source of sleepless nights. It’s the job you thought you’d retire from but now have lost; the business you built your dreams upon that’s now hanging by a thread; the college acceptance letter your child had to put back in the envelope. The impact of this recession is real, and it is everywhere.

Fiery plane crash in upstate NY kills 49 people
By JOHN WAWROW, Associated Press Writer John Wawrow, Associated Press Writer

CLARENCE, N.Y. – A commuter plane coming in for a landing nose-dived into a house in suburban Buffalo, sparking a fiery explosion and killing all 48 people on board and one person in the home. It was the first fatal crash of a commercial airliner in the U.S. in 2 1/2 years.

Witnesses heard the twin turboprop aircraft sputtering before it went down in light snow and fog around 10:20 p.m. Thursday about five miles from Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

Continental Connection Flight 3407 from Newark, N.J., came in squarely through the roof of the house, its tail section visible through the blazing rubble.

Kitty Ebert Reviews the movie: TAKEN

February 11, 2009

This was one of those movies that was so bad it was good, lolll!  It was sooooo over the top and entertaining at the same time!

I mean the storyline was about as stable as Amy Whinehouses  sobriety but we knew what, where, when, and how… Liam Neeson’s character stayed true to his word, “I will find you, I will kill you!” lollll

I highly recommend this movie!  Again, the storyline was not the greatest… hmmm actually it was slightly better then Valkyries script…

They should of put this movie in the fantasy category because some of the stuff that happened was so over-the-top and not humanly possible… however *shrugs* I liked it… I mean I really liked it! lolll

Unfortunately I can not give this movie an A+ although part of me wants too… I’ll give this movie a B- (sorry, I am a stickler for writing).

Again, please go check it out… you will enjoy this movie!

March $20 Challenge…

56108683

In the spirit of the recession and trying to conserve money I am presenting a challenge to all who wish to participate. The premise of the challenge is to spend no more then $20 per work week in the month of March, M-F starting March 2nd-27th. For the most part it is not possible to eat out 5 days a week on $20, so this will require you to bring your breakfast/ lunch in on most days…

The rules for this challenge are very flexible. You are allowed to bring in left overs, or have someone else pay for your lunch. The main thing is you start out at the beginning of the work week with $20 in your pocket for the sole use of beverages and food and you are not allowed to spend any additional money for food while at work!

This is a fun challenge and I don’t have high hopes for many of you to successfully complete the challenge without going over budget. I think this is a fun way to monitor your spending and put whatever you saved towards something else… like a new pair of shoes from Zappos or just to put it away in savings.

So if this sounds like something you would like to try with me… just leave a comment and letting me know what you plan on doing with the money you save during the month of March.

Oh one last thing… please feel free to send me pictures of your lunch. If you fall off the wagon… send me pictures of the Lobster and Steak so I can know what I am missing out on by sticking to the $20 challenge…
